As a part of the motorsport extravaganza Australia's first team to contest the Champ Car World Series, Team Australia, will give spectators a real treat by having one of its 800-horsepowered Champ Cars cut laps of the 6.213 km circuit throughout the weekend.

Similar in looks to a Formula One car the Cosworth-powered Reynard Champ Car was the entry driven by WPS Racing's foundation driver, David Besnard, on the streets of the Gold Coast during the Lexmark Indy 300 in 2004.

The demonstration by Team Australia will be one of the few times a car from one of the world's most prolific open wheel championship's has sampled the famous Mount Panorama circuit since the Australian Grand Prix was contested at the venue in the 1950's.

The only open wheelers allowed to race there are formula V's,any winged open wheelers are not on the track licence in accordance with FIA guidelines.
Waste of a great track,Imho.

Man this would be

In car video coming down from the top of the mountain should be awesome!

The FIM dumped the Isle of Man. Anyone who thinks such a curcuit is suitable for international racing has a macabre streak that is in serious need of suitable attention. Mount Panorama is in the same category and the FIA's decision is entirely appropriate.

Satisfy your blood lust elsewhere.

Err,who said any thing about the Isle of Man,i was talking about Mount Panorama, concrete walls, run off sand traps, second hump (where all the deaths at the track have occured) long ago removed,no tree's on the side of the road, ditto the street signs,no houses or gutters,no cobble stones.

Comparing the IOM which runs though towns with straw bales as protection with the the modern Bathurst track is ridiculous.

Blood lust,no,just a desire to see a track that has had a 30 million dollar upgrade recently, used more than just twice a year.

It will need some more work for open wheelers,i will admit that, but it is no deathtrack.

Three better photos (nm) to make my point

Exiting Caltex chase, the fastest corner on the track (and the world they used to say  )
The traffic signs visable are removed for racing.

Day late and a dollar short. Tracks aren't being "upgraded" with gravel traps anymore. Your selection of photos favors the more open parts of the course. There's a whole lot of it that looks more like the right hander in the middle shot. That comes with the problem of emergency access.

I'm sure it's a wonderful course. There are a lot of wonderful courses that aren't appropriate for big open wheel cars.

Jesus Christ! Its a demonstration lap or 2! Why are you getting your panties in a wad over it! It's not like you are gonna have Servia knockin' boots (fenders) with PT or SeaBass on track! Get over it!

Slight difference in time zones.

$30 million taxpayers dollars has been spent on the place in the past year.
It is used twice a year.
Like I said "Waste of a great track".

I'm scratching my head on the $30 million. What did they do with the money?Afterall, the track is on public roads that have to be closed for the race.

I don't share the concern about the track. It would be interesting to see CC there but they do have a problem with the number of days they can close the roads.

Holy ****! That is ****ing awesome! Bathurst is one of the top three circuits in the world in my opinion. I'd love to see a single seater around there.

Fixed the pits/paddock & resurfaced etc...

You guys really think a series that won't even race through the full flatten version of the Peraltada, is even going to think about racing on something like that? Let's call in Hermann Tilke, maybe he can come in and make these wasted great tracks like Bathurst and the Norschliefe more "open-wheel friendly."

Cancelled. Great PR move in a place where Champ car is already fighting to keep top billing. :shakehead

I personally apologise for the Champ Car not being in action this weekend but the Champ Car will be at the Festival next year with the aim of lowering the current lap record.

Interesting little power play,a pity it didn't come off.And the way the festival went, probably won't next year either.
