Al this NASCAR talk has left me looking forward to the start of the V8 Supercar season,so here is a blast from the past:

Here (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6618509877425244029&q=jaguar)

This is the lap that won pole in the 1985 Bathurst 1000.
The year before Tom Walkinshaw had had a clutch failure on the startline,1985 he returned and as you can see,he meant business.

Thankyou! What a great way to start the day! I recall watching with great pleasure (and listening to!) Bob Tullius and the rest of the "Group 44" guys up at Road America in those Jags. So, how does a 1985 2:18.8 compare to this year's pole time at Panorama? Is the track still configured the same? Any still shots of the wheel lift at the top of the Mt? Great stuff!

PS...what does the Aussie crowd think of Marcus Ambrose leaving to race trucks in a circle? If that whole deal is still on I feel embarrassed for him at the least. I suppose Ford is paying him well, however. It's just hard for me to see it as a step "up." Will he do any V-8s this season? Sure wish I could see your series LIVE! Feel free to post tid-bits we might not otherwise get. :)

2003 pole winning lap (http://www.maelstromcreations.com/bathurst/bathursthistory/qualifying/murphyqualifying.wmv)

In 1985 the Group A cars were a production cars series, today the V8 supercars are pure racecars.

After a fatal accident in 1986 the Caltex chase was added to the track. This took away the second hump which had been the cause of all of the fatality's at the circuit. The first hump is still there, but the top shaved slightly,I think.

Most of the V8 drivers have had their tilt at the F1-openwheel windmill and almost all ran out of either money or talent,Ambrose is no exception.Maybe he needs a new challange in his life.He will probably return for the endurance races in September and October. The Bathurst 1000 is the one race which all the V8 drivers want on their CV. :)

THAT was friggin' AWESOME !!!!

I loved the announcers enthusiasm, with no Paul Page-like "WHOOAAAA' crap.

Those cars haul ass, and that one section of long straight (Conrod Straight) is truly sick ! In the earlier video from TWR Jag, there was no barrier between the car going 180 + and the trees at the side of the road.

reminds me of an old t-shirt that said "Remember was sex was safe and racing was dangerous?"

Thanks for the flashbacks !!! Great stuff that Aussie Touring car and the 1000 !!!
