Anyone buy this yet?

I skipped the 2002 release but the 2003 edition is to be the last NASCAR sim that Papyrus releases. They can't afford the license fee.

I figured I should get it just for that reason even if I don't play it much - as a thank you.

Hopefully Papyrus will focus on a cool OW sim now instead of tin tops.. GPL2 - F1 turbo era would be cool, or a CART sim (not gonna happen).. Even a current F1 sim would be cool of papy did it.

I downloaded 2002 just to see what it was like. Pretty damn sweet... for a NASCAR sim. Plate races are a bore, but Darlington and Bristol are a bee-otch. I screwed around with it for a couple weeks then deleted it to make room for porn. I may buy the 2003 version as well, just to have the bestest physics engine out there.

Yes... if Papy would use the current iteration of NASCAR physics engines and put it into an open wheel road-racing sim, I'd use up my vacation days playing it.

If they can't afford the NASCAR license, I don't think they'll be able to afford Bernie.

GPL was a critical success but a financial bomb. The lack of "beginners helps" doomed it.

Good thing the sim community is patching it like crazy...

I can see it now. A burned DVD with 100,000 15 second mpg clips. NICE! :D

Near as I can tell, the difference between N4 and 2002/3 is not that great. The graphics are tad better in the latter versions and the AI is tweaked, but these are minor changes. The physics are the same, and I'm sure that the backmarkers still wait until you're about to lap them before they start racing 3-wide and block the track and the yellows don't come until you've stopped in your pit stall.

But the biggest thing is that if I get 2003, I'd have to repaint all of the cars that I've done including mine. It's too much work. N4 is fine for me.
