Silver because of Mercedes I presume. Given what they pay I understand.

But if I were Seimens, or Johnny Walker or even Mobil I would have wanted more of a departure from the West livery. This confuses the eye and creates some cognitive dissidence which is not good for the brand value of the sponsorship.

Shiny. I don't know about cognitive dissidence, but I bet it will create some pretty good glare.

Slowly adding more red to the scheme in anticipation of Vodaphone I imagine....

It will be interesting to see how this thing shows up on videotape on a bright sunny racetrack. It could raise holy hell with the chips...

The new livery has an innovative surface coating, which achieves a high level of reflectivity. The technology used was perfected by McLaren during the past six months and is completely new to Formula One.

"A lot of research and months of work have gone into creating this unique chrome finish," explained McLaren Marketing Managing Director Ekrem Sami. "We are always looking at innovative ways to allow our sponsor partners to differentiate their brands from the competition through their partnership with the team and this unique livery is designed to be extremely photogenic. Team McLaren Mercedes had the highest audited 'Share of TV Voice' in 2005 - and we hope that this new identity will contribute to us retaining that status."

If it is a true chrome surface....

Looks like the reflective "chrome" paint is similar to what BMW used for the M3 CSL show car. Could be worse.

Yikes!!!! That is one God-awful colour scheme...

Oh, and a big thanks to the PC nuts that have determined that pimping ciggies is bad, but pimping hard liquor is good.... :shakehead :saywhat:

Oh, and only pretentious wankers say something like "cognitive dissidence" on a racing forum....

Now if you'll excuse me, the Fois Gras is getting warm, and my brie is getting runny....

Attention Paintergeek:

How much weight does paint add to a race car like that? Seems to me that the chrome/silver stuff has to have some metal compenent in it.

Before we all get too worked up over chrome-y stuff, that looks like a nice solid model rendering to me. It looks like the modeling geek slid the "reflective" button too far to the right.

Is it a live shot or not?

I don't like it. It looks like the Midland. They should have went all silver. The Renault, now that's a pretty car.

I don't think the weight of the paint matters. They have a minimum weight limit and I'm sure they'll be right at it.

Yup. :)

I bought this one:

Bought it because I'm a Jacques fan and it was kind of neat, not a car most people saw. (And it was the exact point where Jacques career went down the toilet... if you look really close you can see him sucking ;) )
