OK, WTF was this?

Driving in today, I'm next to a tuner car, not too gaudy (no stickers). Whenever this guy shifted, there was a big release of air from under the hood. I mean, loud, like something you would hear in a pneumatic press factory.

Air clutch? Air assisted shifting? WTF?

And why would you slap an air compressor on your engine for "performance"? An inefficient compressor would just rob the engine of HP.

My 22 year old nephew has a 1990 300zx Turbo with an aftermarket blow off valve sticking up through where the turbo hood scoop was. I always tease him that something broke on his engine and is sticking out of his hood.

They like the sound.

It sounds nothing like an engine, though. It sounds like a pneumatic piston-driven thingy exhausting it's air.

Coffeecan mufflers sound more racy and engine-y than this beast. :shakehead
