TOYOTA ENTERS HOUSING MARKET

SAN ANTONIO (mysanantonio.com) – Toyota will be building more than just trucks in San Antonio. The company has chosen the Alamo City for an experiment in the U.S. housing market. Toyota Housing Services has partnered with Henry Cisneros’ Ventana Homes and acquired 36 acres on which it plans to build 50 homes for the general public.

...“These are going to be conventional North American homes. As we build them, we plan to place a priority on quality and efficiency,” Cuneo said.

Probably have seven foot ceilings, 100 sq ft bedrooms and a huge battery in the basement that costs 30k to replace every ten years.

That seems likely to get be the weirdest news of the day. They probably want to end up with a few homes for people they have moving there and Henry Cisneros roped them into the deal. As far as I know there is no homebuilding companies in Toyoda's keiratsu and Toyota Motors certainly hasn't been involved in this before.

Most houses built in Japan in more like a high end pre-fab process where the only work at the site is the foundation, rigging in the major pieces, and assembly. They made the specific point that's not what they are doing in SA.

I hope the houses are more successful than their boats.

Does it strike anyone else odd that Ank provided a link from A&M's website?

I wouldn't want to be the first one one my block with on of those. They'll probably randomly burst into flames for a while and then once they finally get everything working right they'll take it back and sell it to someone else.

I was looking for the really dramatic head-on shot of an Eagle bursting into flames but couldn't find it. Fortunately I found the above image here (http://www.allamericanracers.com/stats/aarstat.html). Think Gurney is a little bitter? :)

If they put a complex in Kansas, and a twister rolls through town, you could see "The Wizard of Oz" times 100. (Flying houses... get it?).
