I went to put some stuff into the passenger side seat of a rental car I have this morning (mine is in the shop after a high school girl used my car as her brake a couple or weeks or so ago) and noticed that there is no keyhole on the passenger side of the car. The only one is on the driver's door. The car is a Nissan Sentra.

I was surprised. How do you open the door for a lady, or what if you have someone feable or a very young kid with you and you want to get the passenger side door first.

Is this a new trend, or are rental cars ussually like this, or are Nissan's engineers just morons?

Hmm.. When I am out today I'll have to look at the new Sentra to check that out. I have never heard that before.

I have something similar with my friggin amazing Ford Escort rocketship. I have keyless entry but only for the driver side door. The door locks, when locked, are flush with the top of the door panel and you cannot grab onto them. So you have to stretch across and reach for the door handle to open it.

Tell ya... This machine is where it's at.

Another example of nickle and dime cost cutting by not having to pay for another lock mechanism. Since I work of a manufacturing company that produces consumer based products there was probably many many meetings between the engineers and the bean counter/marketing people on that descision.

The engineers usually take the consumers point of view into consideration and the bean counter/marketing people indicate that the cost savings will be more beneficial and that the consumer base wouldn't notice or it wouldn't be a decisive factor in the product being purchased. The problem with that train of thought is that the market data doesn't account for the cumulative total in all of these product "enhancements" targeted at cost containment and the overall result is pissed off customers.

Nappy you are not supposed to think of such common sense things when using a product. If you want conveinence of being able to unlock both sides of the car you need to purchase the "optional" equipment package that will offer you that convienence.

How odd...I guess that's what you get for renting from Enterprise instead of Thrifty. :p

It is Enterprise, but thats what the insurance company of the girl would pay for.

I took a quick look in our parking lot and I saw a Jeep and a VW that are the same.

My wifes Volvo S70 only has the lock on the driver door as well.
