Should be good for neckar though, homestead seems to have improved racing since before their renovation of the track surface.

Well, hell then...triple the banking and make the "racing" even better! It is a stock car track and no need to lament it's passing from CC.

losing vegas as an oval race sucks.

...however if champcar knew about the impending changes ahead of time, then i fully agree with the move. champcar should not be racing on any ovals that have banking significantly higher than michigan.

there's always the big oval in gallatin county. they're in need of some income these days. ;)

I suspect they knew. I heard about it somewhere months ago.

Agreed its a good reason to leave. I disagree that banking improved Homestead. The original four flat corners required real driving, but I guess the current two banked corners allows for more side-by-side action.

Wasn't Texas originally a two banked track and they later took out the lower bank? (or filled it in when they dealt with the seepage problem)

Throw in SUPERSPEEDWAY and check out Homestead when it had corners!

I suspect they knew.

I would bet they were warned of the changes by the track. (think Texas) As much as I like RA the change didn't really make sense given Champ Car's stated desire to be in the Vegas market. Now the change to RA makes sense, they needed to fill that spot on the schedule.

Double bankin', headlight decals and seats painted to look like fans - now that's racin', I'll tell you what!

Vegas market?...don't you think CC still has a desire to do a (night?) street race of some sort?

Yes they do IMO. I think the oval has always been a way to have a presence there until the street race can be worked out.

in my mind gateway is the best oval ever built for these cars. best racing i've seen, the toy/at, indylights races were great as well.

i hope gateway comes back. me and belcher could actually make that trip and back in a day.

i suppose champcars on an oval are something to be seen live, a chance i have not had yet.

Milwaukee in 1999 was something to behold. I'm sure there have been better oval races that others have seen elsewhere over time, but that was worth more than my price of admission.

I hope a street race in Vegas doesn't hit the same trouble Miss America ran into in Atlantic City. The Casinos became hostile to the event because they had to give up hotel rooms to pagent attendees. Given the rather straight laced nature of the show these people did not gamble and the casinos actually saw less revenue during that week.

Racers and race fans are not prudes, but the casinos have to see a serious upside to the event to justify disrupting business that is already going pretty great.

Teh street race never got off the ground because of the casinos. They want people to gamble, period. Not go to a racing event they make no money from. It would work if they got a casino to sponsor it or somthing.

considering how traffic is currently with Vegas streets, I see no chance of Oscar allowing a race to block off any part of the strip, or flamingo, paradise, tropicana, sahara, or any other road within a viewing distance of the strip.

I've heard "a large undeveloped area" near the old original strip on Fremont at the intersection of I 15 and 515 will be tapped for "a longer than usual for ChampCar standards" layout. Aerial shots make it look like they'd be working from almost a clean slate, a giant sandlot! Right across from the Nevada Hotel and Casino.

I think they should also put in a "Loop-de-loop", so the Crapwagons could look more exciting.
