KISS of approval for IRL
The Indy Racing League will put its "I Am Indy" marketing campaign for the 2006 season in the hands of a company owned by legendary rock artist Gene Simmons of KISS, a league spokesman said Monday.

Simmons-Abramson Marketing is one of several new components to the IRL's marketing campaign. Walt Disney Co. has signed to become the league's official entertainment company, providing video boards for pre-race entertainment at events.

I thought the IRL was "sofisticated" :shakehead

Interesting. I just Googled the phrase to see if I could catch other publications or web sites. discussing it. Interesting results (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2004-25,GGLD:en&q=%22i+am+indy%22). Usage is pretty widespread.

Careful, the link will provide some adult oriented responses.

I think this proves that TG is running out of people to offend. The "codpiece" fits in well with central Indiana family values, so its a perfect fit. :gomer:

So the IRL came up with their own campaign slogan and decided to hire someone to execute it. If one develops a concept, one would think one would want to execute it, instead of handing it off to another organization to execute. The IRL sounds like it could be a PITA client.

From the you really cant make this stuff up category...

“Indy cars are rockets on the ground,” Simmons said. “These drivers are modern knights in shining armor, racing at close to 225 mph. ‘I Am Indy’ speaks to the independent spirit in all of us.” :shakehead

Aw crap. I just listened to that thing.

This gets me thinking, perhaps young Anton actually fried his brain whilst freebasin' in 1977 in his bedroom. I can just see him now.....KiSS makeup on, air guitar struttin', blacklit room with an Alice Cooper poster on the wall, Tud Nugent wannabe....I mean, who in their right frickin mind thinks this "appeals" to anyone other than somebody whose brains were stir-fried about then?

Seriously, this is SOOooo bad it has to be coming from the top. No sane person would agree to this being anything but a goddamned joke.

No, Tony...we're laughing AT YOU, not with you. :shakehead

Technically, I don't remember this because it hasn't happened yet! Officially, anyway...

As for John Cougar Mellenhead, he and his wife were paid shills whose contracts weren't renewed after one season.

Who the hell is Mindy (I'm right there with ya Stu) and why do they want me to know that so emphatically? That was the worst song I've ever heard in my life. It used to be that Mellencouger garbage, but this has that beat by a good amount.

But then, some times I think that I have lived too long already.
This is one of those times.
I clicked on that link and found myself so confused that I ended up listening to the entire 1:31 secounds of that piece of s....t before I figured out how to crash this new-fangled computer-thing.

I really need read that instruction manual now, lest something bad like that happens to me again.

song length: 1:32.
number of times they say "i am mindy": 19 (once every 5 seconds)
number of times they say "hey!": 13 (once every 6.9 seconds)

it's got all the signature stylings of a classic pop song.
i can't see how it could possibly fail.
i liked it better than cats. i want to hear it again and again.

How much could TG have possibly paid for that?
How much effort could Gene Simmons have possibly put in to that?
Wasn't it only about a week ago that the story about Simmons' meeting with TG was out.
The idea that anyone would be proud of that "song" is inconceivable to me.

OMG..... I think I made it 30 seconds and the song repeated itself so many times I could not take it anymore.

I also wonder, are there any tracks in that series outside of Indy. Is this song for one race only or is it supposed to support the whole series? I guess Tony is acknowledging the fact that the whole series really ought to be condensed to a one race schedule.

Gene never misses an opportunity to relieve someone of their money, but just off the top of my head, I can't really think of ANYTHING he's been successful at besides the band and it's associated licensing agreements. To wit:

1) Claims to have discovered Van Halen, but didn't sign them
2) Pursues "acting" career (I know, you're saying "what acting career?")
3) Signs "House of Lords" to a music contract and proclaims they are the next big band
4) Tongue magazine...let's see, all of 4 issues before it folds?

I'm sure there's many more, these are just off the top of my head. Anyone want to add to the list?
