I might. I hope to do some CC events this year that involve airfare (on my dime). Not just the "within-driving-range".

On my list, Houston, Denver, Toronto??

Drive to Milwaukee, RA, and hopefully Cleveland.

Love to do Portland as well.

So, Spicoli, you going to Houston, I presume, or just askin'?

Your best luck for hotels would be to book downtown and use the MetroRail to Reliant Park. We don't need any mid-west hillbilly's clogging the freeways!! :)

Let's see...I saw the inaugural at Denver, went to the first one at the Chicago Paperclip, didn't see any CART races in '79 but saw the 1st one at Milwaukee in '80, the 1st one at RA in '82, & Gateway, '97, and that 1st USAC one at IRP in '65 or 6? :D Sorry I missed St. Pete. I'd sure like to add another 1st to the album. Can we camp in the 'dome?

The LaQuinta on Buffalo Speedway; the Holiday Inn Astrodome at Reliant Park

You'll be lucky if you get in to the LaQuinta due to the sub 100 price tag and being in close proximity to Reliant Park and the Medical Center but, try anyway.

The Holiday Inn is the closest to the track and is highly rated on Trip Advisor.com

Joe Jamail's UT alumni too, he's King Ambulance Chaser. He set the way for a fine and lengthy tradition of UT ambulance chasing :gomer:

In 1980 half a dozen wealthy plaintiff lawyers plotted a political campaign to take over the Texas Supreme Court. The two leaders were Houston's Joe Jamail, "the king of torts," who collected a fee Forbes estimated at $420 million in the 1985 Texaco-Pennzoil case, and San Antonio's Pat Maloney, who got the first Texas megaverdict, $26 million for 14-year-old Jimmy Flores, a horribly burned victim of a tank-truck explosion. These tort lawyers realized that, given Texa's peculiar political structure, they could buy control of the state's highest civil court with relatively modest political contributions. They could thus end the difficulties they were having protecting their sky-high jury verdicts on appeal.

I am breaking all of the rules of 'netiquette' here. I know it. You know it.

I would love to take the g. to this race. I just DO NOT have the mad leet skilz to do a proper search. I got overwhelmed, quickly.

I'll get to the point.

Where should I stay (with a 7, to-be-8 year old boy) and where can I get a decent price on a flight? I don't know Houston, never been there. I don't travel much.

Train to venue vs. cab, train wins.

I checked hotels.com, but I have no idea where anything is. I haven't looked into airfair (I would leave from O'Hare, Midway or Rockford, all Illinois.). I haven't done ****. But I want to go.

What I am asking for, is NOT a personal travel agent. I am asking, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE for arrangements. Links?

I expect to get crap for this post, crap away. You should.

I just don't want to end up in some ****hole hotel, with bars on the winders and guns issued at check-in.

If I can get something at this late date that is not extremely expen$ive, I'm there. I do have some disposable income.

Where are YOU staying, and why there, and what's your favorite method for booking a flight. Guess that's what I want to know.

Thank you SO much, in advance. Be gentle, but bring the haterball, if so inclined.

That said, Mrs. 'NUT & I are flying in from LAX on Thurs on Continental. Was $388 total for 2 RT. We're stayng with some friends that live in Houston but I had been thinking about staying at a hotel Saturday night. Best deals I found were at the Galleria. Sheraton and Westin were still available on most travel sights for about $120 - 170 on Sat night. No minimum stay required. Hotwire has a 3 1/2 star in same area for $58 on Sat Night.

Hope this helps.

Here (http://www.ridemetro.org/motion/lrt/mrmap.asp) is a map of the METRORail system and the neighborhoods between Reliant and downtown. There is a link on this page (http://www.houston.com/hotels/) that lets you display hotels by neighborhood.

Looking at Continental's website, flying from O'hare on Thurday to IAH (Bush) non-stop and returning Sunday I see several options for $218 per person. IIRC Continental's site doesn't initially include the taxes so it will be a bit more then that.
