A friend threw me a copy of this....

its knoppix - Linux that is entirely on a CD. Don't need to install it onto a hard drive.

Just wondering if anyone has played with it. Thoughts and such?

Fantastic CD to have in your bag of tricks.

Boot to the CD, run NTFS tools to fix an XP install. Set it up and reburn it to have a customized linux OS wherever you go.

I've used it to reset, ahem, Windows passwords that I didn't know. I've used it to delete files on a system that are locked (e.g. rootkit files).

It runs even better off of a big flash drive.

Yes. :)

It's amazingly complete given the size. It's a great tool for recovering munged intel system regardless of OS. Boot knoppix, mount the afflicted system's hard drive and muck about to figure out where things have gone amiss or reset a forgotten password.

You can also use it as a minimal installation on systems for things like media players. My DVR, my TV and my computer all run Linux. It's the beauty of a very modular, scalable OS.

My only biatch is that it is KDE.... There is so much loaded on there it is difficult to find the app you need..... Other than that......
