According to this month's Racer, Panoz won over Lola for the next CCWS chassis by the slimmest of margins. The tipping point was fluctuation of the Pound vs. the Dollar.

Given how important cost control and cost certainty is as a business objective removing currently fluctuation as a variable actually was somewhat important.

I was struck by the fact that of course this makes perfect sense, but I don't recall anyone on the internet boards mentioning this when the announcement was made.

Mmmm... I'd bet Racer's currency market commentary is about as accurate as their photoshopping of the stands at Nazareth:

I'm sure the loss of all those anticipated Lola sales are exactly what has driven the pound Sterling down lately... ;)

The quote was from KK not speculation from Racer. And I think it had to do more with cost certainty than the strength of the dollar against the pound per se.

I spent some pounds sterling today on ebay. Kinda sucked. Before I knew it, I had spent almost $9 for what started out as a 99 cent sticker.

As I recall I briefly speculated about the currency value playing a part in Panoz getting the contract. It not only brings a small economy on the front end, it stabilizes the cost of the perishable parts as time goes on.
