been doing some research and am going to buy myself a radar detector from Santa Claus. Have narrowed it down to the Valentine 1 or the Escort Solo S2. My question is this: Does anyone have either one of these fine items, and do they wish they had gotten the other? Or is there anyone who has a strong opinion either way on each ? Thanks...

Valentine, accept no substitutes.

The two aren't even in the same league. The Passport 8500, however, is similar in performance, minus the arrows. Having not used a Valentine One, I'm fine with my Passport (especially given the cost difference), but I'd imagine the V1 is the one worth buying if you can afford it.

Amen. V1 is the only choice.

i like my passport, but it still rattles on the windshield. neoprene bumpers would be a great design addition, methinks.

V1 - not counting the insanely good performance, the arrows are enough to make it worth the extra money. I do a lot of open road driving to various race tracks across CA and adjacent states, and the thing has saved me countless times. I even take it with me on flights where I'm renting a car at my destination.
