Could they be any more idiotic? (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/magazine/specials/sportsman/2005/11/22/danica.patrick/index.html)

  :shakehead

SI "jumped the shark" a long time ago.

Yep, its no longer about accomplishments or excellence. It all about media buzz. :shakehead

I have to disagree with you all.

For an entire week, she almost made the Indianapolis 500 seem important again. Talk about almost accomplishing the impossible.

So that makes her "Sportsman Of The Year"? :shakehead That was a good job on her part but not worthwhile of being the most significant accomplishments in sports for the year of 2005.

Congratulations Danica, you almost have visible boobs so we're gonna make you the most important figure in sports. Its amazing what a pair + running mid pack in a crappy league can do for you.

Someone on that site said she was the MVP of Racing. Apparently they forgot there is racing outside of teh IRL.

Morons at SI don't even consider motor racing a sport. They're just trying to sell magazines. If a monkey shoving a carrot up it's ass while riding a pogo stick drew the attention Danicle does, the monkey would be on the cover.

Afterall the author IS Kelli Anderson. She gets her pick. I have refused to read SI (except for "reading" the swimsuit issue) for MANY years, but, dear God if they were to actually vote her the award...that's just SICK! I'd rather see a HOCKEY player get it!

Haven't wasted a moment on SI since they chose some tennis player instead of Niki Lauda as SoY in 1976.

Lauda gets the Last Rites after his Nurburgring crash and then finishes 4th in a race three weeks later. Then he pulls off the track in Japan in the last race because he can't see anything in the rain, thus handing the title to James Hunt.

Yeah, tennis player clearly deserved that award. Not even a contest, right?

Once again, Dan Wheldon gets the recognition he deserves. He must not have accomplished anything worthwhile this year

Made me look. So this is one person's selection out of approx 35 writers. One of them did select Lance, I see.

So Danica is at least 35th on the list of important people in sports this year. I'd certainly agree with that. As the article said, "The once obscure IRL" now has people talking about it. Nearly superhuman to accomplish that.

Puts the defection by Rahal last year into a more severe perspective though. Reallllllllllly aggravating.

Yes, they can and have. Like when they showed graphic pictures of Zanardi's legs being torn off, or the blood in the stands at MIS. It's a pathetic excuse for a Magazine, that without it's yearly soft-core porn issue, would have died out decades ago.

I remember the little news brief up front about the real Split in the Fall of 1978 with the headline "CART before the horse". I was pissed about their complete lack of understanding about the mess that was IMS/USAC at the time. But what can you expect? SI was the People magazine of sports before there was a People magazine.

So, when DOES the swimsuit issue come out? Did I miss it? Used to steal it from work, but I don't have that luxury this year. Heidi Klum still around? DHL should team her up with Glock in CC. Danimentia? Over!
