Very cool.

According to King Insider, nothing good happens to Champ Car.

I'm glad this happened though.

 Re-airs.

Pretty good deal, now we just have to wait and see how many will be tape-delayed.

This news is worthy of going over the Trackforum, and watching Wilke poo himself, and then write something totally outrageous and nutty.

I love the reairs, the Atlantics coverage, and the qualys. Also, look for more and more races on network every year. Its called steady progress, friends.

Please, please, PLEASE...tell me TSN either a) isn't a broadcast partner, or b) will be on an imminently painful and yankable short leash...so WE WON'T HAVE ANY MORE BLACKOUTS IN CANADA. :flame:

Just curious, how many races were blacked out in Canada?

Going from memory, maybe Steve knows for sure...but I think every Sunday afternoon race not on network TV? We did get late night Saturday races, though.

Frankly, even one is too many for me. Yes, we still GOT the races...it was just incredibly frustrating.

Not bad. The rebroadcast part is a big plus.

TSN owns the rights, Speed doesn't. It's not about leash length, it's about Speed not being as interested in Canadian rights as TSN is.

Any race that was not held in Canada, that was broadcast on Speed had the Speed broadcast blacked out in Canada.

Just curious, how many races were blacked out in Canada?

I don't recall exactly, but probably about half.

Mainly it happens when the race is opposite something TSN deems more important, ie. golf, CFL football, in fact just about anything. Racing must be pretty far down the list, because once they bump it sometimes gets pushed way back to a midnight timeslot.

Clearly what we need is TSN2. :)

BTW - you should see the treatment the IRL gets! It's even worse, especially if CCWS and IRL get bumped on the same day, sometimes IRL wasn't until 2am!

I would like to see hour long Quals back on Sats. Really used to enjoy those....but then again....and not to be a doom and gloomer, but there were more tracks (ie natural terrains) worth watching qual then. (96-2001).

With huge crowds at last year's premiere event, the Grand Prix of Edmonton will now debut on the network July 23rd.

It is good that they are getting Edmonton on network TV. That race was the bomb ! ! !

Please tell me Derek Daly is not returning. They need to get rid of Rick Benjamin as well. CCWS would be smart to develop their own broadcast team. They need to bring the same kind of thought they brought to the new chassis and the purchase of Cosworth to the broadcast, and semi-competent journeymen isn't the winning ticken.

Speed lost NASCAR trucks to ESPN2, so it looks like both we and Champ Car will benefit from their need for more content.

Mexico was... broadcast at 11:30pm :(

Bumped by PGA golf, CFL football, and NFL football. I'd love to be mad at TSN, but can't say I'd have done anything different if I were them.

There is no such series as OWRS. Holding companies don't race.

The ABC ones are a little dubious, though, most of those were shown on TSN at midnight. I guess they count, but technically ABC doesn't have the Canadian rights.

Well yes and no. TSN is owned by Bell Global Media and one of their partners is... ESPN which has a parent company which owns ABC as well.

I am guessing but I would say that it's a matter of a phone call to someone to free up the ABC feed when TSN just HAS to show Golf or something.

As a side issue. The Mexico City race was screwed over by TSN - cutting out huge chucks of time in order for it to fit into a two hour time format.

Does anyone have an email for Champ Car that doesn't just end up on some webmasters inbox?

The ABC IRL feed is never blacked out. Neither is CC on CBS. I don't think they're allowed to block out the U.S. networks? Seems that way.

It was terrible. They've done it before, and it seems completely random what laps they'll choose to nuke.

Sigh... I wish this sport was more popular so it would get some respect! They also joined F1 in progress for the last race because they were showing boxing... ON TAPE. :shakehead

Yeah, i remember that. The football game ran long, so they showed the following taped boxing show in its entirety, and cut into a live F1 race.

Oh and the boxing show? - Was 'The Contender' tv show grudge match from Staples center. Wasn't even real fricken boxing.

A friend was in Mexico for the season finale and spoke with a Molson's broadcast guy. Apparently TSN has been renewed by Champ Car to broadcast the races in Canada. Not sure for how long.

One of the excuses given for this year's fiasco was that TSN got the Champ Car schedule so late last year that broadcasting the '05 races was almost an afterthought. They already have the '06 schedule in hand so they can't use that one again...we hope.
