Ya know, this is kinda depressing and sad......

After getting so much enjoyment out of the foytility series on OC all these years, knowing that its the final one in this format, kinda gets to ya, ya know? :(

I suppose this is what it feels like when you are on a long running tv show which is finally cancelled.

But the good news is, he's going somewhere else, so its like a spinoff!(no pun intended, i think) :D

Don't be sad Steve, just remember that you get almost triple the futility next year. And it is in a tougher series!

The end of an era is near. I sorta feel like I did when Mears retired. :sigh: :gomer:

Have no fear! AJ4 has advanced to the rear!

18 14 A.J. Foyt IV 33.3917 215.622 2 2
19 91 Jimmy Kite 33.3948 215.602 1 2
20 24 Roger Yasukawa 33.5389 214.676 2 2
21 20 Ed Carpenter 33.8966 212.411 1 2
22 44 Thiago Medeiros -0.0001 0.000 0 0

The odd thing is that Honda thinks it is worthwhile to pimp the gIRL again:

4 16 Danica Patrick 32.9974 218.199 2 2

Any chance she will actually be able race competitively tomorrow or just lap at speed in a chunk of track devoid of traffic as usual?

Nah. She'll lead a lap or two due to a diff'rent strategerie, and then screw it up in the pits or during a yeller. Itz like dat WWE thingy....we've seen it all before, they just re-use the scripts. :gomer:

Todd called her "rookie of the year champion"!

Enge makes a great run to the front and passes the "rookie of the year champion" on lap 14. Patrick is using her patented charge to the rear strategy as usual. Meanwhile AJIV whitewalls his tires and continues the Futility!

Add Sharp and Lazier the Lesser to the growing list of those with the temerity to pass Patrick.

AJIV ends his IRL career with Foyt Racing in style with a big left side hit on Lap 31! They take him out of the car and put him on the backboard.

Patrick has faded to 10th, complaining of handling and not enough room on the track. Loses two more positions while pitting for the Foyt wreck.

Announcers on the webcast now seem to be saying that Foyt IV backed it in, the attenuator is gone and the rear of the car is a complete mess. He is being transferred to the hospital immediately for scans.

From the "safety innovations" page at indycar.com:

"1998: Attenuators are added to the rear of the Indy Racing League gearboxes to lessen g-forces in rear-impact crashes"

Lap 52. Future Grand Am star Special Ed Carpenter -- still among the runners -- is in 20th, DFL, and three laps down.

Patrick pitted out of sequence with the leaders during the Foyt yellow and moves up temporarily to third. If she wangles her way into P1 look for a red flag for rain. ;)

Settles back mired in seventh, unable or unwilling to make a pass to lap Jimmy Kite and get in contact with the leaders.

Well, they kind of showed the end of the wreck, but not so much what caused him to hit the wall. Last update was that Foyt was being taken to hospital complaining of knee pain and being a bit woozy.

He was supposed to drive in the Busch race at Memphis next week.

Oh, and Danica's ESPN commercial stunk.

Weren't both Kanaan and Franchitti friends with Moore? Wouldnt it still be a win to honor Greg if either of them won? WTF made it so "special" that Dario won?

Because if DF won it would give AGR a 1-2-3 on the season points. What's outragous it they (and ABC) wanted us to believe they were really racing for the last 20 laps (or more). More over because no one would have said a word if he just followed behind and made his car wide for the 3rd place car

Nobody ever accused Tony Kanaan of being the brightest bulb in the box !

I assume he thinks he was very clever "Faking It" !

After AJIV hit the wall, I was surprised they didn't call him in the pits to check things out. No one hits the wall hard enough to leave that kind of mark and gets away with it. Stupid move IMO. AJIV should crash cars for Ganassi next season in Busch. I'm sure the Ganassi Nascar body shop needs the overtime the IRL guys are getting.

He did take off like a rocket. I think he passed more cars then anyone in the first laps. I didn't know about the 'new' engine, now it makes sense why he blew by everyone so easily.
