Dayton— Bobby Martin couldn’t help himself. He had just rescued his Colonel White football team from certain disaster, yet again, and he was giddy with joy. So he started dancing. Right there on the sidelines of Welcome Stadium. In the middle of the game.

That’s what happens when the music starts, a drum beats, or the mood simply strikes. Martin loves to dance. He sways his shoulders back and forth, bounces his chest in rhythm, bobs his head in time.

The fact that he has no legs has never stopped him from wrestling or playing football, and it certainly doesn’t stop him from dancing. Or acting out a good story with embellishment.

It's great to see he's got a fantastic sense of humor.

The quip where teammates tell Martin to “take a knee” never gets old. Ivy complained to the team’s athletic trainer after Friday’s game that Bobby pulled a hamstring. And Martin has been known to bound off the field crying: “I can’t feel my legs! I can’t feel my legs!”

I read another story about this kid -- don't remember where -- that said when he started attending Colonel White they told him they would schedule all his classes downstairs for him, at which point he bounded down the hall and up a flight of stairs leaving a stunned principal behind him.

There was also a Rick Reilly column about him in SI last week or the week before. He sounds like one heck of a kid.
