Indianapolis, IN (October 6, 2005) - The immensely popular film star and comedian, Cedric The Entertainer, has entered into an exciting partnership with HVM Racing which will see the #4 HVM car running under the "CTE Racing - HVM" banner in the remaining 2005 Champ Car World Series events and will be the umbrella title for all HVM cars from the start of the 2006 season.

Cedric will attend many of the 2006 races but will also play an important behind the scenes role with marketing and promotional support aimed at improving the team's sponsorship base. His presence will further enhance the HVM profile and is aimed at enabling the team to be certain of running at the front of the field and to lay the groundwork for further expansion.

'immensely popular film star and comedian'

I'd never heard of him before the rumors of his association with HVM. :o

Good news for HVM I hope. They need a financial shot in the arm.

Cedric The Entertainer has many career successes spanning television, live performances and film. While this is his first venture in racing, he is familiar with the sports community with USA Today dubbed him as "Madison Avenue's Most Valuable Player" following the 2001 Super Bowl when Cedric's Bud Light "The Date" commercial claimed the #1 commercial spot, witnessed by 144 million viewers.

Other notable accolades include a record-breaking win of four consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of the lovable "Coach Cedric Robinson" on the WB's #1-rated sitcom The Steve Harvey Show, which ran for six seasons. In 1994, he received the Richard Pryor Comic of the Year Award from Black Entertainment Television. From 1997 through 2000, he traveled across the country as one of the headliners of the super successful Kings of Comedy Tour (the top-grossing comedy tour in history, earning more than $37 million). His film, The Original Kings of Comedy, is based on that tour.

In addition to his stand-out performances in the Barbershop movies, Cedric most recently starred in Be Cool, Madagascar, the Honeymooners and Johnson's Family Vacation and has recently completed filming The Cleaner in Vancouver.

You need to get out more. Or stay home and watch TV some more. One of those two. :)

It's threads like this that make it easy to spot the AARP crowd :gomer:

Cedric's the man. If you've seen the sequal to Get Shorty, he's the rap mogul in that flick. His standup is great stuff too.

The phrase "flash in the pan" comes to mind. I hope the team is actually getting some cash in the deal and not just a "name".

I guess as long as CC gets some recognition it's a good thing.

Cedric has been around a looong time, but is just now starting to get the recognition he deserves. His standup is hysterical, but because he was on BET and not doing Saturday Night Live or guest spots on Leno, he's not as widely known as Chris or Dave. I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping at night, and those 3am airings of Def Comedy Jam, which featured guys like Chapelle, Rock and Tucker, were my introduction to him.

And yes, he was great in "Be Cool."

I though Be Cool was utter trash, get Shorty was a better film.

Be cool was just following tha trend of "put as many celebs in there as we can and maybe people will like it". :shakehead

Hey, folks, take it easy on the old guys.
I am a member of AARP and older than most here, but even at my advanced age and slide into where-ever-the hell we inevitably slide to, I've hear of and seen Cedric many times....as best I can remember right now.

If the big kid can stur up some excitement about Champ Car, and/or come up with some cash, then great for us all.

And, if perhaps Paul Newman (that really old actor guy) can get Tom to pitch a few million bucks to NHR before his reputation is completely shot, good for us all.

It's still survival first and then "growing the business" for the new owners.
It's such a tough world out they, that I would even cheer for the fat kid from Pittsburgh if he should come back into the fold and bring the great racing operation he has developed with dad's sand and gravel money.

Apparently KK feels he needs to 'grow the business' a lot more before we can get back to RA where real champ car racing can again be enjoyed by this 'old timers'.
