I don't think Ogorman can afford that.

:gomer: I dunno dewd, that looks like one seriously female-free zone... :D I can't say I've ever seen more effective babe repellent than those sleds.

However I digress. You've clearly never before encountered the Spazco Q9 rotary mower/running board kit. It's allows it's owner to cut lawns all week to earn money to feed that four banger so he can get down the parking lot and hang with the boyz at the local female-free zone and buy more ridiculous junk to hang on his pig iron poker... Beats a paper route though, eh?

These people do that stuff to their cars as a joke, right? For the shows? I mean they really don't drive them on the street like that every day, do they? Please, tell me that those aren't their every day cars... Seriously...

These people do that stuff to their cars as a joke, right? Nah, no joke. Remember, this is the same culture that invented drifting. It's a lost-in-translation thing. While we might imagine that the kanji on the side of that top car says "I am a 25yr old virgin with a hideously dumb looking car", it very likely says something considerably lamer and more embarrassing. Seriously, and it's not just the kids.

I was visiting Mercedes Benz Japan headquarters on embassy row in Tokyo back in '96 and I saw one after another nearly new black on black S600's with heavily tinted glass and cheesy chrome wheels with ultra low profile tires.... Looked like something a no-taste pimp would have done, but these were cars that someone had recently plunked down the equivalant of $185,000 USD on and the guys in them were corporate big dogs that actually had enough money to own a place to park one. :gomer: The Benz guys just smile with a bit of a wink and shrugged.

That struck me as funny for some reason.

No joke. It is a trend known as bosozoku, and basically the point is to make your car look like an exaggerated version of a Japanese GT race car from the 70s and early 80s. Giant front lip spoilers, boxy flares, big wings, massive amounts of negative camber (like enough that you are riding on the inner sidewalls), and then slap a round white circle on the sides and put a number on it to make it look like a race car.

Anyone else a little troubled that Sean knows all that? What does that MR2 look like these days? :p

Birth control on wheels. Exactly, you spot cars like these, regardless of where, and you're going to find the biggest collection of 25yr old male virgins since the original Treckies passed into middle age...
