You're referring to the tennis player who has never won a mid or major tournament but makes more money that many tennis players who have? Good for Danica if she does, but for the good of our series, we don't need no copy cat token women. Don't need a novelty, either. If she makes it in the big time, great. But do it with talent and not sponsorship bucks and pretty photo shoots. I really hope Danica ends up being a real talent, too. If she is, it would be great. Just prove it first.

She's a hot babe, but she's sure not gonna make it to the big time with her bust measurement.

I had a short conversation with her at St. Pete.
When I told her that I thought her photos on the team promo card were 'sultry,' she said that she was going to be in the next issue of FHM. I now see what she was talking about. They got so good photos and copy and it should help her in developing her image with a certain fan base. I asked if the picture shoot bothered her, and her response was words to the effect 'no, it's just all part of the gig.'

Perhaps it's because I'm old enought to be her grandfather, but I found her to be a sweet, determined young woman who knows what she wants and knows what she needs to do to get it. Flat out, she wants to drive a Champcar ASAP.

I hope she can consistently dig deep for the controlled aggression needed to be a winner, and I hope she has a long and safe career as a racer.

Another thought.

I haven't heard her on the team radio during a race yet, but I would venture to say that if/when she screws up, we won't hear and 'soooo sorry.'

We're more likely to hear some like 'PT talk.'

Just in case you haven't managed to read the article, she lays the smack down on Sam Hornish in the lead...

And the writer calls Atlantics and CART "formula cars"!

Now that she is "out there" even more so, how about a publicity push. Maybe on Letterman when Dave gets back. She was on Kilborn awhile back but he had no clue what kind of racing she even did.

I have met her several times and she is stunning, even in street clothes. She is also very gracious and seemingly an up and coming race talent. I guess we all can look forward to the podium finishes!

Formula race-car driver Danica Patrick is the hottest thing on wheels since Roller Girl

You can’t blame FHM for taking 21-year-old Danica Patrick a bit lightly upon meeting her prior to this photo shoot. After all, at 5-foot-1 and barely 100 pounds, she’s hardly intimidating. She is, however, plenty tough enough to hold her own in a male-dominated sport on one of CART racing’s top circuits. Few people know that better than Sam Hornish Jr., the two-time defending Indy Racing League champion who battled Danica on the go-cart circuit when the two were teenagers.

“He tried to knock me off the track, but I drove over top of him,” Danica says of the time she embarrassed Hornish at a championship race. “He didn’t like getting beat by a girl.”

I STILL RESPECT HER!:p

WHOA !!!  :D

She is very stunning and attractive. I can appreciate why men would say, "WOW!" However, I have mixed feelings on this.
I know most of the guys are going to label this as a typically female response, but many of you are my friends and know me, so here goes anyways.......

Danica is a female wanting to do well in a male dominated environment (I assume). Until recently, there has not been a whole lot of female drivers in open wheel racing. Sarah Fisher has not exactly been the most talented example so that leaves the door wide open for Danica Patrick to set a positive example and be a role model and a houshold name that many would refer to in the future as a flagship female in racing. So then, why would you exploit yourself in a sexual connotation like this on the cover of a magazine when getting respect for your abilities as a female in racing is difficult, at best? I don't get that. I would want to display my presence in a more positive and strong way. Show my presence in the media through interviews showing strong character and impressive on track performances. Not this way.:shakehead

I'm sure all of you guys were wondering when a female would step in and express displeasure at this.....but I am confident I am not the only one. Others might say, "Why shouldn't she if she can?"
Or, "Why should she hide her sexuality?" A part of me wants to say, "All the more power to her..." But,
It is like the Madonna syndrome, she did it because she could , but that doesn't neccessarily mean you should IMO....

I mean come on......Her butt crack is showing....She is a race car driver, not a porn star..........How do you REALLY want to be recognized and remembered????????

Give her a break.

In this economic climate that kind of (un)coverage in the more mainstream media will go a long way towards the major sponsorship dollars she'll need in a year or two to run the champcar series.

What guy wouldn't show a plumber's crack a top his belt line if it could mean a top flight ride in the short term future? Memo Gidley is probably checking how photogenic he is right now... ;)

I think being a talented female race car driver alone will get her recognition and sponsorship dollars. That alone is a rarity. I want to see her do well simply because she is female. I will back her for that alone. I would have loved to see her do it in a less sexual way. It all comes down to whether or not you can REALLY drive the car.

You had to expect one of the ladies on this forum to say this.....;)

As far as I'm concerned, if a "reader" of FHM magazine looks for a CART race because of Danica's photo shoot, that's a good thing. We can't afford to pick and choose fans based on their preference of reading material. ;)

I'm not really talking about recruitment of fans.
Just methods.......

I think there are some big differences in Danica's situation. She's already secured a ride with what should be a good team. If she's got the goods and produces results on the track it will be clear for everyone to see (just like her butt crack).

Danica's future will be determined by companies who want to use her to market their brand or product. That's done most effectively with a combination of results on the track and personal charisma. Danica's willingness to show off her assets may put some companies off, but as you can see by the "spokesmodels" at many of CART's events, there are plenty of companies who are happy to use a little sex appeal to market their product.

I think Danica's attitude is admirable. "Say what you want, I'll prove myself on the track." I hope she's got the talent to back it up. I think she just might and I hope CART has the sense to latch onto her if she does.

As I mentioned above, she told me of the FHM thing when in St. Pete.
I concluded from the way she expressed herself that she was just doing what she could to help in promotion and development of a larger fan base in support for her career.

Times are tough out there, and if Danica chooses to play the game this way, I wish her well.

I trust that her employer and mentor will provide her with protection from the hoards (hopefully tens and tens of hoards) of horney guys who storm the paddock hoping to score.

Danica has great potential success based on her sex appeal and promotional "assets". But I repeat; make it to the big time with your talent, Danica, not your bankroll and/or novelty factor.

now that we lost all our "big name drivers" (read: highly recognizable by even non-fans) it's time to get the new generation going. I think this was a step in the right direction.

yes she is exploiting her looks, but it will be a great day when a woman gets pulled over by the cops & has to hear the line "Who the heck do you think you are? Danica Patrick?"

Well, you can all start drooling some more.

3rd place and fastest lap in her first Atlantics start.

If she takes more off will she be faster at Long Beach? ;)

She drove a solid race today. She ran right w/ Macri until the last few laps. I didn't know she got FTD. When did she get that? Was it on the last lap? I saw that Diaz ran a 1:24 and he was the only one I recalled running in that time frame.

Nonetheless, excellent start to her Atlantic career. She's the real deal and seems mentally tough, as well.

Congrats to Variante. That must have seemed like a long offseason. Also, it was too bad about AJ's incident in Turn 1 w/ Diaz. Even though it was AJ's fault, I thought he did a great job hauling that damaged car into 8th.
