Robin Miller reports that Phoenix will be dropped from the IRL schedule. It's not shrinking, it's "condensing." Of the original IRL ovals that now leaves only Indy.

ABC the broadcast partner of the IRL is ready to announce a new soap based on the league called, "As the Vision Blurs" . ;)

Now PIR needs to apologize to the residents of Phoenix for inflicting such pain on them all these years!

Let me correct that: The IRL will be dropped from the Phoenix schedule.

In 1995, PIR drew 64,000 for the Championship Auto Racing Teams show but the IRL replaced CART in '96 and struggled to draw 20,000 ever since. Now that's what I call saving oval racing... :shakehead

From where I sit it's not condensing, it's putrifying.

No apology necessary.
Just give us Buddy Jobe's head on a platter.

Hello? Buddy? Say, where is Buddy?

Oh yea, his head is already mounted on a wall in Daytona Beach.

Too bad, the CART race at Phoenix was always a good event. Once again, thanks you-know-who.

Phoenix is one of two ovals I'd like ChampCar to run, the other being Milwaukee.

Imagine that. The IRL drops an event due to a complete absence of interest but doesn't add a new race as a replacement. Since the premier series allegedly has such a bright future I wonder why another event wasn't added? Perhaps they were unable to locate anyone willing to participate. Past IRL propaganda has always obscured failures with vague explanations such as "one of our objectives is to condense it". "This was always part of the vision" that Tony rolls out every time the IRL mutates is laughable.
A shrinking schedule can hardly be explained away as part of a plan to grow a series. Not to mention that if Honda leaves, Motegi will be dropped also.

I was watching that episode when it first aired with the woman who would become my ex-wife. I had to explain that one to her.

How's the weather in Phoenix in mid-April?

Usually starting to get hot. It depends on the year. It's 95 right now.
March is MUCH better, but early April is probably doable.

Were you thinking of having a street race? Or are you just planning a vaction?

April is when I start my Sidewalk cafe and Railroad Track Tour. Does Phoenix have any of those?

 Well, we have some sidewalk cafe's, not many mind you. And we have railroad tracks. But, to the best of my knowledge, yer gonna have to put together your own tour. :p

Phoenix was always a fun race for me. I can't say that a CCWS oval race there would be a success, but I'm sure it would be a good race. The late March / early April weather is just about perfect and there are plenty of places to stay as long as you book ahead. Air fares to Phoenix are generally among the lowest in the US due to the high volume and competition.

It may just be that formula cars on ovals is about over in the US. Phoenix and Milwaukee are great ovals but if you look at the EARL's attendence at Phoenix and CCWS at Milwaukee it's hard to see a future for ovals.
