Long AP story about Legge and her win at Edmonton.

Interestingly, the writer makes note of Patrick's lack of a win during two seasons in the same series.

Excerpt from AP story in the St. Petersburg Times

WOMAN WINS AGAIN: Katherine Legge won the minor-league Toyota Atlantic race in Edmonton. Legge, an Englishwoman who won her Toyota Atlantic debut in April in Long Beach, Calif., passed pole-sitter Charles Zwolsman for the lead on the 19th of 32 laps.

Legge is the only woman to win twice in an international open-wheel series and is the only female driver to win in Toyota Atlantic. Danica Patrick's best Atlantic series finish in two seasons was second before she moved up to the Indy Racing League this year.

Katherine Legge is very impressive. And, you know, I dig the accent. From Speedtv.com

Legge Eyes Atlantic Title in '06, Champ Car in '07 (http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/champcar/18325/)

“Everybody seems to be under the impression that I'm going to Champ Car next year, and it's really not the case,” she revealed. “I'm not going to get there just because I'm a girl. I have to get there because I'm a really good driver. At the moment, I don't have the experience and the talent to get me there,” she added, before outlining that her ‘06 plans are all currently still up in the air, specially since necessary sponsorship hasn’t exactly been knocking on her door daily.

“When I get there, I don't want to be driving around at the back learning for another year. I'd rather do another year in Atlantics, really win a championship before going into that, if I do, indeed, get the opportunity. But I really feel like I'm learning a lot right now in Atlantics.

“I don't want to run before I can walk.” Well spoken. I hope her boss doesn't put her into the big game until she's ready. The temptation must be huge to do so.

This is impressive; not only for the story but for the fact that someone actually bother to *check the facts* before writing it.

edit: Interesting that she is with PKV and that was always Jimmy's aim: to do very well in the series you're in before moving up. Don't ever get slagged with the backmarker tag.

No hype required

EDMONTON -- The score is now Katherine Legge 2, Danica Patrick 0.

While Danica-mania has spread through North American racing circles despite her lack of concrete success, Legge, of Northampton, England, continues to find wins where her U.S. counterpart could not, taking her second victory in the Toyota Atlantic series last weekend in Edmonton....

A race to succeed

Before Katherine Legge, no woman -- not even Danica Patrick -- had won an open-wheel race in North America. The native Briton, who will be at the San Jose Grand Prix, has emerged as an up-and-coming star.

A little hyperbole there, but they get the drift.

Heh, heh, heh... he said "drift"...
