Sorry to hear....I did spend some of my time on a couple of his late 80s hits in my early years learning to sing lead. Good stuff.

Was he the one who battled weight issues up and down for his whole life?

Yeah that's him, then he had the stroke two years ago. Yeah I'm not going to be driving around listening to him, although I wouldn't mind checking it out again.He was talented.

I remember Eddie Murphy doing a standup bit on Luther...he referred to him as a "big, fried chicken eating mother ****er" IIRC.

Sad to see him pass so young. I'm not sure he was a grounder breaker like Marvin Gaye, etc., but he was a talent.

Great voice. I'm surprised he died relatively young. Reminds me of when Robert Palmer died. I'm still in disbelief on that and it's been nearly a couple of years.
