what 6 would you like it to be?

And only use tracks on either ALMS or CCWS calenders for 04 or 05.

Unless... Toronto Molson Indy at Mosport! :D ;)

oops, sorry gotta pick 5 more ...
Road Atlanta (both), Lime Rock,Road America, & Mid Ohio .. East coaster here who still misses Nazareth

I think a partnership between the two, though unlikely, would be good for both.

Neat idea. Hope they can work it out.

From a CC perspective, you pick the tracks the fans want to go back to, and the ones which are still on the sked but could maybe use a shot in the arm....

so my six come from this group.

RA
MO
Cleveland
Road Atlanta - since this year they are there 1 week after LB.
Toronto or Montreal
Laguna
Mexico City - Since they were to try it the first year anyways...

They do? I thought it was AGR's promotion company.

Not sure CC would be welcome back with open arms after dropping St. Pete's following the bankruptcy.

So is there a link that goes with this or something?

I'd say Sebring,RAtl.,Cleveland,RAm,Mexico City,LS.

Yes, my home road course, MO, isn't on the list. As much as I would like to see Champ car back there for my personal entertainment, I don't think it makes sense for Champ car to run two road course races within an hour of each other.

The comment about the 6 races is from Robin's latest at SpeedTV....

http://www.speedtv.com/commentary/17918/

Its a one line bit in an article about Honda and IRL.... Nappy found it first, and its the honda thread over at the others as I type this....

Its one of those things that, considering the past history of ALMS and CART, i'll believe it when I see it.

In the others thread, we're having fun deciding what we'd do if people like Rahal et al decide to jump to ALMS to follow hondabucks and then they're at a track the same weekend as CC. http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/scorchio/sgrin.gif

[edit] nappy beat me too it..... argh.... i just had to have the evil smiley, being DM and all..... Took too much time. ;)

I don't think ALMS would want to play second fiddle to CCWS. Would CCWS want to play second fiddle to ALMS?

Which leads me to think that if there are 6 races, 3 would be at ALMS tracks, 3 at CCWS tracks. Flip flop running Saturday and Sunday.

Makes too much sense, never happen.

<edit> Back on topic, I could see ALMS at LB, Denver, Mexico City, Champcar at Road America, Mid Ohio, Mazda (Laguna Seca). Would love to see Road Atlanta and/or Sebring, but have long standing safety concerns been addressed?

And Atlantic City on the Bader Field airport!

See http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&address=&city=atlantic+city&state=nj&zipcode=

It would get a race in the Northeast 1+ hour from NY and Philly and a bit longer from Baltimore and DC.

The field is practically on the ocean and they already complain that they want to reduce the flights in and out of it (or even close it).

Dumpy town but the boardwalk and casinos are a 5 minute walk from the field.

I don't think ALMS would want to play second fiddle to CCWS. Would CCWS want to play second fiddle to ALMS?

I saw a Bare Naked Ladies/ Alanis Morissette double headliner concert last year (they called it the Au Natural Tour). The way they did it was give each equal billing to each and alternated who went last from concert to concert. They could do the same thing.

I would suspect that they would try to do these at events each control. For CCWS that is LB and Cleveland. For ALMS that is Road Atlanta and MoSport (but it’s hard to believe they would touch the Toronto event). Does Panoz own any thing other then these?

I would say the following are off the table as possible: any over seas races, MoSport, Toronto, Lime Rock (simply not suitable for Champcars), Sears Point (IRL is there), Mid-Ohio (to close to Cleveland and if they go with an event in Ohio it will be the one CCWS controls, but query, would ALMS stay at MO then?), any oval, Sebring.

That really leaves you with limited possibilities:

Locks to be on schedule

Cleveland
LB
Road Atlanta

Where the other 3 would come from

Road America
Portland
One of the two Mexican events (but not both)
LS or San Jose (but not both)
Montreal
Edmonton

I would guess those last 2 are less likely then the first 4. Personally I would pick Road America, Portland and LS from that second bunch to join the first 3.

A ChampCar/ALMS double header at Road America would be awesome, is there enough paddock space to make it happen?

If I got to pick 6 tracks where either series currently race to host doubleheaders, these would be my picks: Long Beach, Mexico City, Montreal, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Laguna Seca

But isn't that a 12 hour race? When would CCWS race? That was my reasoning, not that the track is not suitable.

Road America has plenty of paddock space for 18 Champ Cars and 25 ALMS cars. No sweat. They fit all the Star Mazdas on the pavement there last year with ALMS and that's like 40.

RA has tons of paddock space.

I think the question may be is what teams can back up their transporters and hike their canopys in the primo spots behind pit road? Champ Car or ALMS? Who gets to leave their stuff on pit road for the weekend?

To me, that would tell me who was top dog for the weekend.

Based on all realistic factors (TV ratings, sponsorship dollars, etc), the nod should go to ALMS. Plus a good ego-checking on the part of CCWS management could go a long way to healing the wounds Chris Pook opened w/ Panoz (especially valuable given Cosworth's impending ALMS powerplant).

I'm not disagreeing with you, but what about the CCWS drivers' opinions? How would Seabass, Junky, PT, Shorty, etc., feel about playing second fiddle to (was going to type Max Papis, but it looks like he's in GA this year)?

At half the events CC gets the spaces that are considered best and at half the events ALMS gets the spaces that are considered best. Problem solved.

I agree with this solution. There is some precedent for Champ Car not being the headliner everwhere. At Vegas we play second fiddle to the pick-up trucks.

Umm...this is no time to be proud. Any driver nowadays who has a paying ride in Champ Car is happy to be employed and not in the IRL.

in track shcedualling last year because we came on last minute.

but in terms of pit equipment.

NASCAR cars wheel their war wagon in and wheel it out when the are done.

they are gas powered and alot less complicated.

Um, not anymore. Have you seen some of the pit rigs that the NASCAR teams have? They're more elaborate than most of the Champ Car setups. Absolutely insanely huge.

Of course, when you're the richest series in America you can afford to do **** like that.

I have not seen NEXTEL cup pit lane equipment that close, but its pretty similar and easier to set up and tear down. They share alot of races with BGN and move it in an out.

but i did see the CTS stuff. they just wheel out a big box with a fishing chair on top, fire up the generator and go.

That's CTS.

The NEXTEL Cup stuff is ten times more elaborate. Three-story boxes, huge fold-out wings with an integrated roof, $10,000 audiovisual systems... Gan@$$i's teams have friggin' damn near PORTABLE BUILDINGS

I walked the pit lane at Sears Point and my eyes bugged out... you could run a professional formulafeedercar team for a year or two on what some of the teams must have spent on their timing stands and war wagons.
