Near the end of the Cleveland edition of the audio roundtable (http://www.champcarworldseries.com/News/Article.asp?ID=9248) , Gordon Kirby mentioned that he hears a major well-known brand name is coming on board in late July/early August as a sponsor for one of the major teams. He believes this will help CCWS in general as this company show commitment to Champ Car. Should also help the smaller teams ramp us their sponsorship programs

Red Bull?

Makes you wonder huh? It's not like they got any great press or market results for their brands at the USGP. For less then 10% of the costs they are spending in F1 they could run a two car team in Champ Car.

But they have Team Cheever...

Maybe they are tired of wanking around at the back.

Or in front of non-existent non-Indy crowds

No insider stuff, just a hunch..... Some company from Korea.

I have never understood why Red Bull is in the IRL. If they are trying to get an American in F1, shouldn't he be racing in a league that turns right?

Kia?

Maybe we can get Jack Arute to write a story about it.

Red Bull is in racing because its owner loves the sport and blows tens of millions of dollars on it every year. I envy the guy.

I doubt he ever sees a return on all the sponsorship, but I'm sure he is having a blast. Still, why he is in IRL and not Champ Car, I don't know.

I'm thinking (hoping) more along the lines of someone like Samsung or LG. Partially for selfish reasons, I'd love to see someone underwrite shooting the races in Hi-Def again.

Or Ms. April Phool. :)

Exactly! Well, I can see we all agree on the "WTF are they in the .RL with Cheever" question!

Lets move on to: WhyTF is a multi billion dollar company like Bombardier spending money on the .RL?

I mean, really?? Did Tony need a Global Express or two at some point, or a Lear for a cousin... and this is a payback, (kickback!)?

Is he going to buy a train from them so he can have another wreak?

Is there a weird marketing study that shows .rl fans buy more quad runners and wave runners then Champ Car fans? I mean, not to blow the horn a bit and seem like my nose is in the air, but I've seen the income stat's that CART used to use. The avg income looked pretty high for CART fans - say against NASCAR. I don't think the stats have changed too much. Do Champ Car fans not like wave runners? Are wave runner's below our radars so to speak? Maybe we all drive twin engine offshore, frogman killing monsters?

I just don't get the ROI for this company? Maybe they don't pay anything? Maybe they get to hang a sign at Indy so as to attract other companies into the TG fly trap? Sort of like lighting a red light for Roxanne mode?

It's not like they had a French Canadian in the series until this year. Oh and his current points position is really helping them out... :shakehead

Sometimes you look at a company and it's marketing and you say, Yup, I get why they are doing what they are doing. Take Viagra: (Well you can if you want..., or need... :D ) We know WHY they are in NASCAR. Look at the avg age and the % of males who watch NASCAR. Some may need a *lift* after watching one of these races I must say, but we all know the connection that is working here.

But Bombardier and the .RL?? (scratching head)

Questions, questions...
