Alright the question is who is going to the Cleveland Grand Prix. And heard some interesting things that gambling might be voted out,I hope so.

I just read at another forum that USGP tickets can be redeemed for a Cleveland race ticket.

Hey we have 18 cars!

We'll be there.

While it would suck to lose the airport course, redevelopment wouldn't have to mean the end of the Cleveland race. Just develop a purpose built race track in a park area around and through the casinos.

I was just thinking about that yesterday. I suppose if they build casinos or a convention center there would be plenty of newly paved roads to use.

Man it is starting to dawn on me now that I'm not going to be at any Champ Car races this year now. The opportunity I have is definitely worth it, but it'll be wierd with no GP to see. :(

I will be there.

Even if they do a convention center or gambling that is not going to occure at Burke. The city has already limited the convention center to the current site at Mall C (and/or a potential new Mall D over the rail tracks) and any gambling will go on an existing property owned by one of the people pushing it, like Jacobs west bank property or Spitzer's Lorain property. Burke is safe for quite some time.

If there's a place @ the track to meet, lemme know where. If Lizzerd ends up in the SOG section, I suppose I'll have a contact who knows some other folks.

Also, does anyone know whether there is public transport b/w Burke and downtown? I may need to get from the track to the Jake after Q2 Sat.

I'll be there....as usual.
The first time I enjoyed the 'Roar on the Shore,' a young man driving the "Sleep Cheap" car won.

Years later. I enjoyed the event after the lose of my only brother who, BTW, got me hooked on champ cars when I was only 10 years old.

This year I will enjoy the circus without 'railbird'

This year, I shall again enjoy the race, drink a few beers to those who are no longer with us, and look forward to next year.

Check your PM on the first one

on the second item, take the RTA "Waterfront line", a light rail train that runs through the Muni lot across from Burke. It goes into Tower City (Terminal Tower) and there is a walk from there right to Jacobs Field.

Dammit - that's what I was going to wear! Can't risk a fashion faux-pas at a racing event, what with the first-impressions and all.

I want to meet as many OC-ers as possible. Well, except for SOG, who has decided it's more prudent to hit on beauty-contest girls on Thursday night, tell them that he's "racing" on Sunday, then high-tail it to a parkinglot in Michigan. (Dood - you could have been an Ambassadah!)

I might have the Tour-de-RoadAmerica yellow t-shirt going for a while - remains to be seen how the weather will affect the wardrobe.

our seats at the race were the at the very end of the very last grandstand away from the pits. if you knew where we were and there was a crowdshot, i could very easily point out where we were. even though the temps sucked, it was a very enjoyable and crowded event as well. highlight of the day was seeing a group of fans walking behind the grandstands with the michelin man hung in effigy with "f1 sucks, thanks champ car" t-shirts.

a dollar not spent at the formerly great racetrack is a dollar well spent.

Just got back.

Took the blue road route back across the lower tier and northern PA. Even took a hike today to the bottom of the "Grand Canyon on PA". Nice little workout it 98 degree heat but nice.

Sorry I didn't deduce any posters and no posters deduced me. I wore an old 7G shirt on Saturday and figured it might draw a comment or two from someone who might post here. Otherwise I was I wearing a pretty salt stained champcar hat and had in tow of a 12 year old with a brand new PKV has or a year old Tracy hat.

I was at the fan forum. Loved the question and non answer/crowd response about running the road course at Indy.

In general a good time. Met two people redeeming USGP tickets. Both never have been to a CC race and one knew almost nothing about it. My son filled them in. One drove all the way from VA. My impression was that of the three years I've gone the crowd was definitely better than last year and probably the year before, but the crowd was much more informed and loyal than I've seen there.

I saw precisely three pieces of NASCAR gear, less than a dozen Indy/IRL garbs, and literally a ton of Champcar attire. Those that were there knew why they were there or were attempting to learn.

My son and I got back in yesterday afternoon. We hit the Hard Rock Cafe after the race - saw Nelson Philippe there with what looked like his family. We aren't into collecting autographs and we weren't going to disturb his dinner.

We did attend the CCIC dinner and had a great time. Saw a few folks from the old 7G days, decent food, great conversation - had a fun time. I recommend it for anyone.

The race was quite a different crowd than I've experienced at either M-O or Nazareth. I don't recall seeing any NASCAR swag, some F1, but a HUGE amount of Champcar gear.

The fans were very knowledgeable and all seemed like hardcore Champcar fans. Even the "loudmouths" in the crowd were Champcar fans.

I asked alot of folks, including some CCWS staff, about the possibility of a Philly race. They are seemed very positive and speculated that it was a very good possibility.

We were in the E2 stands - Row 3 - in front of the podium. I think I'd prefer to sit closer to the pit-in, but there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. Plenty of race action. My son looked forward to the drifting and enjoyed that.

Plenty of local coverage on the TV and in the papers. The race was mentioned in the lead-in to the news almost every time.

Elmo, we were in E3, probably across the aisle from you. I was hoping to bump into you and your son.

Agreed that all the seats were OK, but Fri and Sat we moved way up the track to Section I. You could see the cars much better at speed and were about even with them as they hit the brake point (depending on the series running) and you could clearly see their lines through 10 and 11.

I sat in G previous years and thought moving left would be better, but next year I'm moving the other direction.

Too bad there are no longer seats up at 8. There was a lot going on their this year.

Hi everyone! I wasn't at my sociable best this weekend due to the heat, but I did make it to the CCIC dinner. If you were there, you definitely saw me as I made my way back from an ill-timed restroom visit (right in the middle of Dave Wood's introductory speech). :o Dave pointed me out to everyone as "Susan the Long Beach CCIC local coordinator". Sorry I didn't get to visit with more of you!

As for the race, my seats near the top of E1 were terrific; I had a great view of both the track and the victory podium. I had dreams of seeing da Matta on it, but those came to an abrupt end while Tracy fans around me cheered his retirement. I enjoyed the race anyway.

Did anyone else see the guy in the navy-blue t-shirt with "Tony George is an *******" on it? :D

You could see the cars much better at speed and were about even with them as they hit the brake point (depending on the series running) and you could clearly see their lines through 10 and 11.

I sat in G previous years and thought moving left would be better, but next year I'm moving the other direction.

Agreed. We sat down in the braking zone for all but the Champcar race. If we go next year, I'll be looking for seats to the right.

Not having OC gear or a formal get-together makes finding you all tough. We were sitting next to the loud guy who kept yelling support for PT during the race and during the podium celebration. And he shared his binoculars with his teenage son so they could scope out the Champcar girls and other women on pit lane. "Now check out the one in the green shirt..."  Not you???

And Anteater, my son and I sat down at the other end of your table during the CCIC dinner. :)

We'll set a time and place next year. The evening activities are rough for us in Cleveland because we drive up on Saturday and after a long day at the track we're ready to crash.

The Champions tent would be a good place but I don' know if everyone has access. A place to sit in the shade was a great addition this year.

Yup. I started to point it out to my 12 year old and thought better of it

No not me, but I know who you mean. My son went for a PKV hat this year to replace his PT hat he got last year. We were bummed when CDM went out, but please for PT. But as per another post, Dinger won us both over this week. I predict he will carry forward the "personality" PT has given the series, especially the last 4-5 years.

I went past him in the E stands and said "Nice shirt!" and he interrupted his cell phone call to say "Thanks brother!".

Seems that he is "shutuppaulpage" (I always liked that handle) from CCF. There is a good picture of it over there, along with his recount of how he got to meet Paul Newman because of the shirt.

(just a hint, since posting a link here would be poor netiquette.)
