Legge makes big strides in Toyota-Atlantic series

It's not often the bandwagon comes around twice, but for those who missed the Danica Patrick go around when she raced at Cleveland's Burke Lakefront Airport in 2003 and 2004, you can now get an early jump on the Katherine Legge tour.

Like Patrick, she is racing in the Toyota-Atlantic series and will be in one of six support races for the 24th annual Grand Prix of Cleveland, June 24-26 at Burke.

Legge does not have the runway portfolio Patrick arrived with two years ago, but she does appear to have comparable racing ability. Indeed, Legge, who is racing for the Chardon-based Polestar race team, already has won a race, which is something Patrick hasn't done.

Legge is currently tied for second in the championship race with her teammate, Antoine Bessette with 54 points, six points behind leader Charles Zwolsman.

Indy prep school?

One can't help but notice the Toyota-Atlantic series is the stepping stone to the Indianapolis 500. The last two winners, Dan Wheldon this year and Buddy Rice in 2004, prepped in the Champ Car support series before taking the final step up. Rice also raced for Polestar.

Other former drivers, and Indy 500 winners, in the series include Jacques Villeneuve, Al Unser Jr., Danny Sullivan and Bobby Rahal.

And then there was some other stuff about Bruno's possible replacement, and some stock car stuff.

The PD lays down the smack! That means I might need to buy the rag for racing news in addition to the Ohio political crap.
