I guess his sponsor's product wasn't enough to give him "that winning edge." :D

The backlash from fellow Busch drivers has already begun (http://www.thatsracin.com/mld/thatsracin/11799028.htm)

"I read Hmiel is a punk, Hmiel is still on drugs, Hmiel's all this, Hmiel's all that. None of that's true," he said. "When people say that stuff, all they're doing is making me want to work harder."

Thats a quote from Hmiel 'hisself' after his and Jarret's tussel...LOL!

While I'm thinking about it, Jarrett had every right to be mad at Shane. It was a blatant take out move that put Jarrett in the wall along with someone else I think.

But, in NASCAR's way of 'thinking', they fine him for flipping Jarrett off.....but not for a dangerous and purposefull take out move. I dont get it.

"A NASCAR source said a permanent ban was being considered" (http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RTD%2FMGArticle%2FRTD_BasicArti cle&c=MGArticle&cid=1031783096278&path=%21sports%21auto&s=1045855934848)

Is Newman saying conclusively Shane was indeed high during competition? :saywhat:

If so, he should've come forth a lot sooner than Charlotte.

I think Ryan is just making an assumption.

I think Ryan is just making an assumption.

Unless he can specifically prove so for the race in question, regardless of Shane's present overall circumstances, that sounds like a pretty libelous assumption to make in public to me.

Has anyone ever confused Ryan with smart?

put him in treatment and regular sessions for the duration of his career, test him constantly during race weekends, if they can help him figure it out, they should

I suppose. I myself have thought Shane was under the influence just by seeing some of his recent interviews. Maybe Ryan has noticed the same things.

Well, he's SUPPOSED to have an engineering degree...

Or do no Gomer universities count? :gomer:

I doubt anyone who watched that Busch race at Bristol (except Jewls at TF, apparently  ) DIDN'T think he was high that day.

Ummm...your thread began today at 12:58am...this one is nearly 36 hours older. ;)

Meanwhile...look who comes running to Shane's defense (http://www.nascar.com/2005/news/headlines/cup/06/04/dearnhardtjr_hmiel/index.html) :p

I would add in a condition that once rehab is completed he speaks with MADD/SADD/DARE programs about the dangers of driving and drugs and all that jazz.

Do the major racing series even have a drug testing policy, or is it more of a "we suspect something, so go pee in the cup?" kind of thing?

This is not a stick and ball sport.

Lives are lost in this type of endeavor.

Someone ought to take this kid out back-o-the shed and smack him wif' a 2X4...hard.

His competition license should be taken for life.

And based on what I saw at Dover today, there's a former IRL champion who may thus be due for some "random drug testing" himself... :D

NASCAR does that..... they created their drug testing policy to hide from Tim Richmond who was the first major sports star to have AIDS. They branded him a drug addict and created a policy of testing when there is suspicion. He missed a few races and retired from some because he was sick, so NASCAR couldnt have its wholesome family fun ruined by him, so they said he was a drug addict and kicked him out (he sued and won, theres a lot more to the story, this is the condensed version).

As for Hmeil, as a driver I dont feel bad for him, as a fan, nope not either. Kick his ass out, he should not be able to drive a race car anywhere.
