Alex Zanardi got back in the cockpit of a Formula One car at Imola on Saturday for the first time since his major Champ Car accident, ahead of a possible demonstration run for Williams later this year.

The Italian, who was promised a test by Williams co-owner Patrick Head in the immediate aftermath of his Lausitzring accident, tried out the cockpit of a Williams at Imola for size and may get a run-out at next month's European Grand Prix.

"I drove a car like this for years, so I'm not afraid nor I will get emotional," Zanardi told Gazzetta dello Sport. "At the time it looked like it could be difficult to get in the car because of the width of the opening under the steering wheel, so that some modification might be needed.

"Instead I fit in almost perfectly, my movements are almost regular, so I will just have to get used to it again. I can't wait to drive it, it will be real fun."

Zanardi is currently racing for BMW in the World Touring Car Championship.
