Thankfully never... my company's corporate and purchasing groups are out of Dallas, so we all get 214 area code cell phones. Not cool. I'll give you 512 though... saw Trans Am at Emo's for $2 cover a while back. Nice little town.

Right now I'm running 3 area codes, 970 home office, 443 eFax and 214 cell phone. eFax is the bomb.

ever been to The Parish? the sound there is fantastic, Kasabian should set off a mushroom cloud there next Wednesday, I'll be at an outdoor show behind Stubb's though :D (decided I'm going to do the day/night trip for Ryan Adams)

According to Karl in Gainesville, you should go to the Kasabian show. Let me know if you have any more questions for him. :gomer:

You need to clone an evil Ank so you can go to both. :D

Does opening for U2 mean you've finally ARRIVED?

COULD BE A CURSE. :gomer:
if its Snow Patrol, its more likely to have an undercard of Irish* bands supporting U2.

*in the case of snowy patrol the're from Scotland & Ireland.

see now that's the way it's supposed to be. a brotha as front man with a buncha pasty faced limey's backing him up. too bad the guitarist with the haircut OGorman spends half his time bitching about who was wearing the pink shirt and flowery guitar strap was too busy standing still to join everyone else in the festivities, oh well. jeans n tshirts, the way a band should be dressed up. i laughed at the hipsters with ties and jackets and tshirts and shorts.... douches.

it's called inference. reading comprehension. critical thinking. :gomer:

like i said, it rocked the house, but the guitarist was a bit stoic, the front man is ****ing cool though. will definitely enjoy them at aclfest, dont know how their sound will work with such a large outdoor area though, they have alot of vocal filters and such...

futureheads: acl fest, will rock

doves: http://www2.hornfans.com/wwwthreads/images/icons/hookem.gif

the decemberists ****ing rule. picaresque is ****ing great, and her majesty and cutouts & castaways are f'ing solid too. go read Colin Meloy's book, he's imo the best lyricist to come around in a long time and I love their folksy sound. I don't know how many times I have to extoll the Olympian levels of their greatness for geezer'oli to finally give them a listen

wait, there i go again, talking about bands no one's heard of and spending thousands on affected classiness to compensate for my inability to race in circles in parking lots :gomer: (tix $20 : tshirt $8 : jeans $30 : beer priceless)

Y'know, I liked these guys for a while. Then they got all their gear stolen. Twice. And never missed a beat. For a band I've heard called "wimpy" a lot, they've got bigger balls than most.

Biography by Heather Phares

Newcastle's angular pop quintet Maximo Park consists of singer Paul Smith, guitarist Duncan Lloyd, bassist Archis Tiku, keyboardist Lukas Wooller, and drummer Tom English. Like their friends and neighbors the Futureheads, Maximo Park craft smart, sharply catchy songs inspired by post-punk and new wave legends like the Jam, XTC, Wire, and the Smiths. The group issued their debut 7", ... Read More...

lets put it this way, when they head down to The Parish in Austin on Thurs....

they're gonna burn that ****er down http://www2.hornfans.com/wwwthreads/images/icons/smokin.gif
good presence, not overdone, flowed well although Michael Stipe's had straighter nights on stage ;)... worth $12 and then some I'd say. Can't wait for ACL Fest...

I saw all the hot chicks walking the other way downtown, was wondering am I going the wrong way? I hadn't been to this club before... na, they were just heading to Louis XIV... Kasabian packed the house too though. The Colour I missed, Mad Action was a bit generic but alright for an opening band, they had a couple good songs...

all in all, a good night, and I scored a couple of Ryan Adams tix for Friday in town so no Austin or Houston trip in the middle of the week needed :D

Ankf00

bottles are good :gomer:

and he's still a prissy wus.

edit: sober review time. this time it was "come pick me up" instead of "summer of '69" that set him off, I guess he didn't hear the people screaming random bryan adams song names :gomer: really good show aside from the constant rants and whining and him cutting it short like he did in Houston this week. Don't scream because that "messes with [his] execution" or something:rolleyes: the accompaniment stays in the background and completes the sound very well, overall excellent sound in an only above average sounding venue. he needs a haircut in a baaaad way but he's jumping up and down and all around during most of the set and it gets everyone pretty excited and into the act. funny mix of poser cowboys and hipsters so people watching was a riot. he told a buddy of mine at the austin show he's never really drunk on stage that's just how he comes across, he has a glass of wine and that's it (l-i-a-r). in the end, despite all his whining and moaning, he said "I'm going to play that just not now" and about 15 mins later walks over to the VERY EXACT spot at the bar we were at moments earlier (@#$&%$^, being an alkie and having an IV hooked up directly at the bar can have its advantages apparently) jumps on top of the bar with a 6 string and plays a few songs almost out of earshot but not quite...

Le Coup de GrĂ¢ce, you ask? why it's... "Come pick me up, take me out..."

I support the Reckless on Milwaukee Ave. I was a Wicker Park voodoo head for 7 years (actually East Ukranian Village, but not as many people are familiar with East Ukie Village).

Not familiar with "Metal Haven." I used to go to a cool record store on the south side of Belmont - not sure if it still there. Found a copy of "Loveless" by My Bloody Valentine there once for, like, $5.00.

Looked for Pelican, but all they had was a live show from the Abbey Pub. I was already going out on a limb with Ank's "Cold Roses" - $19.00 new. , so I didn't feel like spending more money.

I like it though. I might lay over in Portland for a weekend, hang out with some friends and see him play up there... he seemed to blow Ank's mind.

well it is a double CD set, but it was only $13 at Austin's Waterloo Records when it was released.

Ryan Adams playing tonight in Portland (oc, MHF - get out on the town).

I was going to have work take me to Portland and try to see the show, but some other crap came up... and I couldn't have stayed the whole weekend anyway as I have to entertain customers at the Denver GP on Sunday.

The Motorock concept might not have been too bad if the bands from this thread had headlined...

Didn't make the RA show in Portland as the work trip fell through... but I did see BRMC throw a hissy fit at Coachella last year. :gomer: The bass player smashed a few instruments and ended up leaving the stage. The guitar player and drummer limped along and quit early. Lame. :shakehead

Which was a bummer as I saw BRMC in Denver at the Larimer Lounge and they put on a great show... fuzzy and loud.

I must be the only one who finds them 10 shades of awful. One of the worst live shows I've ever seen.

10 shades of awful cut with some parts silly and many parts weird. I've decided that I like the short ones, and some parts of the 8 minute plus ones. Totally different than anything I've heard in a while which is refreshing.

Also, Roky Ericson at ACL. I'd love to see him... esp. if they do some of the "13th Floor Elevators" songs.
