OK, this one below is interesting, but it really doesn't do the turn justice. Despite that, I like it.

I'm standing at the "0" marker, for the braking zone coming out of the back stretch. You can see the marker attched to the retaining fence if you look for it. The cars reach thier top speed (190 MPH - ish) and have to stab the brakes to make the complex of turns starting with a VERY fast left. They get high on the curb here, becasue it's the only one they can do it with. I shot this with a wide angle attachment because it was easier to keep the cars in frame. The downside is that it makes the cars look much farther away from the camera than they really are. It's pretty loud and you are quite close here. A great place to watch qualifying from, because they take risks here regularly, when trying to find that extra hundredth of a second. Occasionally they blow it and it can go really wrong. I've seen some interesting things develop here at very high speed. Kanaan had a stuck throttle once....that was nuts. He barreled across the grass into the tires.

One of the most under-rated sections of track in North America. The cars go through that section scary fast. :thumbup:

I showed that clip to my roomate, and instantaneously he became a ChampCar fan.

He watched Long Beach for a bit, but watched all of Formula 1 with me today as a result of that video. I have since shown him more ChampCar and F1 clips

These camera angles and more are what ChampCar needs. Show the speed and the grip, not the typical shots in their TV coverage. Those kinda of angles give you a true representation of what a ChampCar racing is all about

I was standing in the Newman Haas Pits, watching the boys go about prepping Sebs car, and in the process I just soaked up the ambience of the Champ Car pits. In this clip you’ll hear all the familiar sounds, close up.

Air Guns, Air Guns, Air Guns…
Timo Glock idling by in the pit lane…
Mario Dominguez idling by with the pit lane speed limiter on (which from the other side of the race track, if you’re behind the car, sound like a jet)…
Various Champ Cars passing at full song on the adjacent straightaway…
Various Champ Cars accelerating from a very low rate of speed from the festival turn in the distance…

Ok, this is similar to an earlier one from a different thread, but maybe a bit better. I walked around from the paddock to watch the cars come through the wicked fast, “left-right-brake-downshift-downshift-downshift-brake-downshift-accelerate… sequence of turn 9/10/11/12.

You can hear the cars coming down the back straight, and you can hear them accelerating back up the front straight, in the distance. It’s really cool. The reason the camera work is a little shaky is because I was filming basically blind. The fence is 7 feet tall, and I’m holding the camera over my head without looking through the viewfinder, so I can shoot the video over the fence. Trying to follow a car hauling butt, passing about 10 feet away at 160MPH is not easy when your panning .

Man, if I hadn't had the kids in tow for those two day, I would have been right up there on that fence with you! :D I was telling Mrs. MHF how responsible I was with the kids - despite the temptation, but she just screwed up her face and asked, "So, if the kids hadn't been there you think it would have been a good idea to stand that close to the track by yourself?" I nodded enthusiaticaly, and she rolled her eyes and went off to check our life insurance policy. :laugh:

My better half was at the track with us for awhile that day. She had to go back to work though, so she missed the time in T1. Thank god for the rubber stamp of my hobby, from her.

Besides, if I woulda got clipped, she'd have gotten my life insurance payout! :laugh: Free house!

Oh, Mrs. MHF is a race fan. And I should have added that she felt a lot better after she looked at the life insurance policy. ;) The only problem would have been a mild injury, as our deductibles are high! :laugh:
