If you mean "Who's going to be at Portland?", I can assure you that I will be there. :) I can think of at least 5 others from this forum who will be there too, but I'll let them speak for themselves. Should be fun!

If it was me, I'd stay downtown and ride Max to the track. The Max line stops at the front gate of PIR and runs to downtown. The hotels near the track at Hayden Meadows are not great, and there is nothing to do out there. The hotels north of the track at Janzen Beach are undergoing some remodeling according to Anteater, so space there is limited. Many of the teams book in there, so they sell out quick. No long walk from the parking lot, no traffic, and you're downtown where the nightlife is. Unlike most US cities, Portland's downtown is the best place to live in the area (and most expensive), and it's safe to walk around at night. Hotels range from the big chains like Hilton, Marriot, etc. to the small boutique places like the Jupiter.

The Max line also runs to the airport, so unless you need a car for something specific, you have other options. It's 15 minutes from the airport to downtown
on Max, and there is a streetcar line and buses everywhere once you are downtown.

The main thing that the Doubletree Hotels in Jantzen Beach remodeled was their rates--I think they increased by about $20/night! I won't be staying there this time; instead it's going to be the Four Points by Sheraton Portland Downtown, where I got a room for $89.00 with my AAA membership. I stayed there last fall--it's a nice hotel, and about 2 blocks from the Max station.

Last winter when the race was being discussed BBQ entered the picture. I did a road test on a recent addition to the BBQ restuarants in the area, and we may have a winner. It's the Russell Street Bar.B.Que (sic) at 325 NE Russell at the corner of MLK in the building that used to house the Doris Cafe. Good off street parking, nice atmoshere for a BBQ place, and it's large enough to seat a group. It's located 10 minutes from the track (depending on traffic) and 5 minutes from downtown.

Hey F00...Listen to this dude!

Anyone who would link Bridgeport knows his stuff (and you know from experience that I know beer & TQ!). '

Portland is a great town. I'd love to go and just "pub crawl", but I'd have to bring Mrs. Manic if I did (ask Tim and cork how hospitable she can be... ).

Bridgeport has great firkin brews, and the pizza at the alehouse is one of the best I've ever had.

I know the place. Well, I haven't tried the BBQ, but the Doris Cafe was legendary on this end of town. Let's see how many out of towners we get and where they're staying, but we can put it on the short list!

Good job on the road test, oc; if you say it's a good place, I know I can trust your assessment! I hope we can have a get-together.

I think there's going to be a CCIC Fan Club Dinner, too, sometime that weekend, so we'll want to avoid a schedule conflict.

Oh darn, hanging out wiht MHF and Ank really sounds like it would've been the OC social event of the year. :gomer: (etc)

 That woulda been fun.

I got excited last week when I was given a "promotion" (cover CO, UT, WY, MT, ID, WA, OR, AK, AZ, NV, NM without a raise) and would be travelling to Portland in June. I've got a college buddy there who drives a Scout.

But, my fiance's sister is visiting Eagle the weekend of the race, so it looks like I'll just be working during the week and not laying over for the weekend. First she ruined my Turbonegro road trip to Lawrence, KS, now this. :flame:

Over the past few years, these events have... well, they've sucked. They have a history of billing it as a block party, then you get there and see that the restaurant has just moved their tables out into the street and they're serving dinner (yawn).

Unless they're going to raise the bar this year, I think something of our own would be better.

I fly into Portland the Monday after the race. It woulda been sweet to have come in early for the weekend. :( I've driven a Senor Dos around Chicago (which is a parking lot in the midwest) and chugged the pacific coast microbrews. I'll stick with the brewskis, no offense SOG. :D
