Q: One year into the life of the ‘new’ Champ Car, how do you assess the progress that has been made?

Dick Eidswick: I’m very pleased with the results. What we did in the first year of the new Champ Car was put on 14 fabulous races that featured strong attendance and competition and produced a great champion in Sebastien Bourdais. The fans like what we do, and this year, we are introducing a much stronger television product so we’re going to be able to take that show that everyone likes and make it available to more people - not just domestically but internationally as well.

From the business side, we have new relationships with McDonald’s and Roshfrans, and America Online announced a new partnership at our promoters meeting to put Champ Car branding on AOL subscriptions. It’s going to be an interesting activation that will feature McDonald’s and Ford Motor Company and our other partners.

Can't be bad for CC but until I see something for it someplace outside of the Champ Car web site (ie promotion) I won't get too excited about it. Could just be a percentage on every person signed up.

The rest of the interview is interesting as well. A couple of ovals will probably remain the standard. They'd still like to find a way back to LS and RA. They're in no hurry to get rid of the "spec" package since they want to focus on the drivers.

I have the $5 a month option for AOL, I keep it as backup for the rare instances when the high speed Internet is out, but I think I log on maybe once or twice a year.

I guess this means now we'll have to see more of that awful commercial with the two guys at the cafeteria line.

I'm sorry, subscribing to AOL is just too much to ask. :)

Now where can I get some of that Aussie wine?

Let's face it. AOL is a helluva lot better than Northern Lights.

FTG forever.

You just have to subscribe. You don't actually have to use it. :D

Does that mean ads for the X10 camera will pop up on my TV every time I tune in a CC race?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I already have the first ad concept.

AOL is fast like a ChampCar, while everyone else is slow like NASCAR.

Ohhh! This is better.....

ChampCar drivers use AOL, NASCAR drivers use Viagra.
