Bernese Mountain Dog

Switzerland. Can be traced back to the Roman invasion of Helvetia 2,000 years ago. Caesar's war dogs were crossed with native flock guarding dogs. There are elements of Rottweiler, Saint Bernard, and Newfoundland blood discernable in its ancestry.

As a U of I alum - I'm embarrassed to be associated with anything related to Salukis ;)

http://www.thedoghows.com/factory/graphics/dogs/saluki.JPG

Of course, this does a good job of describing me:

Built for speed and stamina the Saluki is also a very intelligent dog. He therefore needs constant physical and mental stimulation with plenty of daily free exercise. Highly sensitive he thrives on affection. Good with children and other dogs. Needs constant human companionship and should not be left alone for long periods.

Spicoli - Growing up, I had a pet Samoyed. Great dogs.

Yep. Our neighbors had a black lab that could catch frisbees. Duchess, our Samoyed couldn't get all fours off the ground at the same time. "White Dogs Can't Jump." :D

Australian Cattle Dog ?????
http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/breedinformation/herding/images/auscat.jpg

First developed and refined in Australia during the late 1800's to herd cattle, the Australian Cattle Dog is tough, courageous, and possesses great stamina. The versatility of this "natural" breed is a tribute to those who have worked to keep it a true working dog. Their intelligence and ability to "problem-solve" guarantee the Australian Cattle Dog excel in herding, obedience, agility or as a vital family member. The Australian Cattle Dog is part Collie, Dingo, Kelpie, and Dalmatian. The pups are born white. Adult coats are short, dense, and either red or blue. They are athletically built, and capable of sudden, quick movements.

I'm guessing that belgian and dutch dogs have had an affinity for biting germans in the ass since 1913 ;)

Hovawart

http://www.hundezeitung.de/bild/newfie.jpg

The name Hovawart comes from the German "Hofewart", meaning estate or watch dog, but its role, for many years, seems to have been simply that of the champion dog that will rise to the occasion if required to do so. An excellent guard dog that is home loving, fond of children and easy to train, the Hovawart tends to be a one-man dog. It is slow to mature and will respond aggressively when provoked.

Man, I'm almost scared to post this... :gomer:

German Pinscher - Often described as high spirited and self-possessed, this is in fact a good natured, playful dog which is good with children and makes a fine guard. It is alert, loyal, watchful and fearless. However, they can be bull-headed and stubborn and need to know who is boss [ :saywhat: ]. For this reason the German Pinscher is not a good breed for children. They will bite first and think later.

Don't be bagging on SeanO and his dog now. They may not win any prizes for being pretty, but they don't really care. They just like to spend their time frolicking in the park, blissfully unaware that no one watchs.

Or cares.

Oh yeah. I'm an English Foxhound. Whatever that is. WOW! I just had a thought!!! If I came back as a dog.........

........ I could lick myself, right??

And nobody would yell at me like they do now!

Bearded Collie

http://www.infor.nl/honden/images/bearded.jpg

Alert and self-confident the Bearded Collie makes a fine family pet that is reliable with children. Known for its bounce and exuberance, the Beardie will charm you with his joyous, affectionate, happy-go-lucky ways. Playful and lively with an always-wagging tail, it makes the perfect companion for children.
