NEWARK, N.J. - John Z. DeLorean, an automotive innovator who left General Motors Corp. to develop a radically futuristic sports car only to see that venture crash spectacularly as he fought federal drug charges, has died at age 80.

The Creator of the Pontiac GTO

John DeLorean was a Charismatic, Talented, Good Looking, Egomaniac, who had the pedigree to make the DeLorean project a success, but who believed his Press Clippings and Lived like a Sultan before the whole thing played out!

He was an incredible Salesman, who let that little Devil on his shoulder take control of his talent !

Even Johnny Carson invested in the Company !

Apparently the company has been revived to service the fleet.

^^^ Really, everyone should have a few spare flux capacitors stashed away in their garage. You just never know when you'll need one.

Here's an article that appeared in our local paper today

Wynne formed the company in 1995, when the bulk of his business was working on original DeLoreans at a Houston garage. Still, he needed a name, and because there was nothing legally preventing him from using the original, he decided to give it a shot. He even called John DeLorean, who wished him luck.

A dozen years later, Wynne hopes to parlay the car's celebrity -- along with the world's biggest stash of DeLorean parts and engines -- into a niche production business that begins hand-making two DeLoreans a month sometime next year. They've just started taking orders.

Already, the Humble operation will take an existing DeLorean, strip it to the frame and rebuild it for a base price of $42,500. Wynne's staff can rebuild one every couple of months.

Only if I can go back in time 12 years and see a real CART race again.

I want to go forward and see that Champcar has evolved into something better than CART. :gomer:

If only I could go back and time 12 years and get excited about Cart again. I still can't figure out half the drivers I'm looking at on a Sunday.
