Sunday's attendance was estimated at 30,000. . . .

Well, with less than half the grandstand seating open (72K on the track's site), that must be right. Didn't I hear an echo of Paul Page's usual announcement, "It's a sell-out crowd here at Homestead this afternoon..." :gomer:

30k??? Did that include the residents of Homestead FL?

I was at Homestead in 2000 for Champcar, and the place was only half full, if that, and an estimated crowd of 30k. No way was there 30k for EARL.

Now, now.

The .1RL is switching to the Ethanol way of counting.

T'was parroted by the AP as well:

The crowd for the IndyCar opener on a warm, sunny day was estimated at 30,000. ... Wheldon, who won $100,400 for the victory, averaged 142.033 mph. ... The top finishing rookie Sunday was Paul Dana, who was 10th, eight laps behind the winner.

I believe this is an honest mistake...they interpreted the TeeVee viewing audience as race attendance. :gomer:

So know is 30K supposed to be a big deal? 30K would have been a bad turnout in Nazereth back in the early '90's.

30K in the stands and a .2 on the TV Richter scale. The IRL is goin' places! :gomer:

I tried Modtorsport.com but they only have 10 raceday pics.

"The 2000 season-opening event in March at the 1.5-mile track drew 30,000 to 40,000 spectators."

Hey, the IRL is all about ethanol inspired double vision. That's how they get 30K in the stands!
