Norah Jones won the Grammy in every catagory she was nominated in.

Every once in a while the Grammy's gets it right. She recorded the album on a small jazz label with no overdubs or mechanized beats, had no pre-release media or hype, didn't dress like a porno chick or act like one in videos, and didn't need a machine to sing on key or dance with 30 backups.

Hey Norah, any time you want me to come away with you is fine with me.

I missed it last night, but I heard on the radio this morning that she is sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar's daughter.

Really!

Right now the women in music have so much more to offer then the men, and I am not just talking about Norah who is quite a talent.

It's nothing she advertises. Shankar had nothing to do with her upbringing. Her mom was a single parent.

She doesn't even mention his name on her CD!

I saw her video on VH1 about seven months ago and got the CD for the missus.

It's refreshing to see something other than rap get acknowledgment.

Oh, and Dave, how can she be your gal, when she was already mine?;)

I scanned through some articles on-line (the most interesting was one in the Wash. Post) and some point out how she did it almost opposite of the marketing you see today. Everyone else in her category aimed to 20 something women and younger and promoted through MTV while she, in the words of the Post, went the route of NPR and appealing to an older crowd. It was almost a word of mouth campaign. They quote her as saying she was hoping she could sell 100,000 disc. The Post pointed out that the voters for the Grammies are twice as old as the typical age group her competitors (at least in some of the catigories) are aimed at, and that may have been an important factor.

I know in Cleveland she was on a morning show doing an interview a while back to promote the records release.

Kudos to Norah, big time!

I for one am really glad that she shut a ton of wannabes out, including that no-talent little bag-O-snot from down the road that has trouble with the English pronunciation of "April".
