Eddie Jordan's Formula One team will live on for at least one more year.

Jordan confirmed weekend reports that Canadian billionaire Alex Shnaider has bought the Formula One team. Financial details were not released but the sale price is being pegged at $50 million US.

The team will maintain the Jordan name in 2005 with the Toronto-based Midland Group operating it through a subsidiary called Midland F1, Jordan said Monday

Jordan Grand Prix and Midland Group today announce the signing of a contract concerning a future take over of Jordan Grand Prix Limited by Midland Group. Under the terms of the contract the team will compete in the 2005 Formula 1 World Championship under the name Jordan Grand Prix and the cars will be known as Jordan Toyota EJ15s. Further details will be announced by Midland Group in due course.

Eddie Jordan said, "I have devoted 35 years of my life to motor racing and have had some really fantastic times. The last fourteen years when I have been lucky enough to be involved in Formula One have been a highlight, naturally, and winning our first Grand Prix in 1998, which broke the grip that the top teams of the time had on the sport, is for me a personal triumph."

Sigh. F1 loses another character. EJ was great, too bad to see him go. :(

"We are planning to use Russian aerodynamic experts and engineers ... they are specialists involved with MiG (fighter jets) and Sukhoi (Russian aircraft manufacturer) ... anything from our group of companies that can help."
So if the new Midland F1 car looks just like the Ferrari, it's only a coincidence right?

Remember the Jordan/Hart ? I really liked that small under dog team in it's early years. Eddie the character will surely be missed. His team was so close to becoming a key player at the front of the grid several years ago, whether he took his eye off the ball or the times conspired against him, I don't know but I'm sad to see him go. The days of the sportsmen racer appear to over.

Honda screwed him over... he was lining up a factory deal, then they pulled the rug from under him and went with BAR instead.

Reports at the time said that Honda wanted a piece of the team, EJ didn't want to give up control... hindsight is 20-20...

I remember the Jordan/Hart days. Jordan was lmore or less the top team in the decon tier, behind Williams. Maclaren, and Ferarri. Looked to be on the cusp of actuallly being competitive for podiums and the occasional win.

How things have disintegrated since then.
