Wot's up with the padlocks on the NYR threads Boss? It's all seemed pretty civil stuff so far.

I do appreciate it is your site to moderate as you see fit but...........

Just a friendly enquiry from Downunder. :) :)

Yeah, I thought that was a bit premature, as well. I know there are lines you don't want to cross, but it seemed like we were a ways off on that? It's your call, but I thought everyone was behaving themselves on that one.

Originally we closed the thread because we weren't sure if it was just a rumor or a fact that NYR was arrested for child porn. Since then a trusted source has confirmed that he was.

However, it seems to us that discussion of NYR, and the snickering that inevitably follows, are borderline in a couple of ways. This isn't a place for discussion of individuals who aren't public figures or involved in racing. This isn't a place for obscene or vulgar humor. Threads that drift into NYR discussion are immediately pushing those restrictions.

The time has come to close that topic once and for all. If anyone has factual information to share about NYR do it here and now, because this is the very last time the topic is open for discussion.

Along those same lines, we're getting tired of having to mull over whether this or that sexually oriented comment is over the line of vulgarity or obscenity. Some of you are causing us to spend entirely too much time on that. If we see that you are making a habit of it we aren't going waste any more time considering the appropriateness of your latest bit of bathroom humor. We will simply hit delete.

I have no problem with locking the NYR thread because of the possible direction it would head, and really was just being nosy...now I know the reason so that is cool.

However, a lot of innocuous threads have been locked and posts deleted very recently, which doesn't sit well and kind of reminds one of a certain forum and its occasional meltdown modes in its last days...

I can't speak for anyone else, but this is one forum I feel pretty comfortable opening up and it wouldn't have occurred to me that it needed more aggressive monitoring...if you monitor too much, people will inevitably become frustrated...anyway, there is a suggestion in there somewhere. Also, I do notice that certain threads that are locked contain rather vigorous debate by a certain "moderator" which starts making the thread closures seem more a matter of a prescribed point of view than anything else...

Thanks guys, I never knew that about the bloke. Wasn't trying to stir the pot but it just seemed weird that every NYR thread got locked. Now I know.

If true, I do not condone his behavior at all, in fact it disgusts me. Like most of the guys here it's all "fun and games" BUT there is a line that should not be crossed. Involving children in adult themes is one of them IMHO.

Once again, thanks for the update. Topic closed for me.

Most of the guys asking or bringing up the NYR topic know what the score is.

Why do they keep doing it? Their dicks

Make your job easier, ban them

nrc and missy do a fine job moderating this board. If you cant come up with anything to say, just say (or post) nothing. Going a couple of days without a post will not kill you. The Internet is a very large place, lots to read and participate in other than make reference to a guy whom many long time posters know the score. If you had not noticed the nyr threads being locked down, maybe you have a comprehension problem, and need to wise up a notch. This message board features a personal message function, if you are having trouble keeping up, ask someone.

If it were my board, and someone compared it to TurdForum, I would ban them in a New York minute

Now, can we get back to the weighty subjects of how AutoCross equates into real racing, high finance and big time sports car racing?

Well, in the past couple of days I have seen a post deleted because it offered condolences to Ank for his friend. That and a thread locked because it actually involved a debate about racing. That is worth complaining about, IMO.

Tell you what, why don't you just post a list of the opinions that aren't allowed here. That way we errant thinkers can review it and decide if we are going to in any way offend someone.

I missed the part about offering condolences to someone who posts that a friend died in the off-forum being somehow prohibited or offensive. Can you direct me to that?

And the part where we must not appreciate any road racing series that isn't approved of by a majority of the members. Where is that part?

It seems a rather closed-minded group is intent on shouting anyone down here who doesn't agree with them.

BTW, your posts arguable violate the user agreement.

This is the last post we will make on this topic. If you do not like how this forum is run, then you are invited to leave. You do not have to be here.

Complaints about OffCamber turning into 7G are laughable. Part of the decline of 7G was due to the rampant political arguments. Hence the no politics rule. Politics are not allowed in this forum, whether it's contained in an expression of sympathy or not. Your condolences were expressed with added political commentary. The post was removed, as was the following post which also contained political commentary. This has ALWAYS been the rule here and until recently it has been adhered to. Observe the no politics rule and your posts won't be deleted.

In regards to the other thread being closed: It was closed simply because it got nasty. The closure had nothing to do with your disagreement with nrc. There were several other posters in that thread participating in the tone that it took, and I decided it was best to close it.

Hey, that's really neat. Maybe if I started a forum called "closed minded dork living in the past with too much time on my hands forum" and I invited you that would make me clever! Not.

You know, if that post "RaceGrrl" was so offensive, then you're out to lunch. If you really thought it was primarily political, then you have a comprehension problem, not me. And I don't really give a crap whether it was "you" or "nrc" who deleted it or any other thread. Why should I?

Anyway, they are valid criticisms, people have left forums for less. Your response is so unprofessional that I can't imagine I would continue to post here. My criticism wasn't personal before, but that is out of line.

I find it interesting that you claim that the thread is closed, that you are here to stick close to the rules (which include not discussing and criticizing forum members) yet you don't delete any number of childish posts containg silly name calling. Why? Because you really just want to have a stupid little closed minded club for your circle of mental deficients. And if your skin is that thin you should not be moderating an internet forum. Again, I raised valid criticism.

There are some very good people here. However, a very few posters here have a cliquish high school mentality which they mistake for being cool. You know what guys, I never liked guys like you anyway. I don't have to agree with you on politics, on peripheral subjects like sports cars, or anything else. I don't even want to. You're no better than the angry Wilkies at TrackForum who dogpile on anyone who doesn'[t buy into their IRL dream.

Go ahead, ban me. Please! I don't care. I suspect I won't be the last.

I thought the same about him - I sometimes heard that there was more to the story, but no specifics. I wrote the little bit that I did hear off to rumor. Every time the subject came up, it disappeared before I could find out why.

One thing to consider, mods - don't always assume that everyone already knows why you don't want the threads to exist.

Good point. A friend of mine told me something about Belinda Endress a few years ago. Well, I'd seen her around different tracks and thought she was a nice, God fearin', religious kinda race car girl. I couldn't believe that she had an alter ego that made... uh... videos. ;)

So I popped on 7G and asked if anybody knew anything. Turned out Belinda and Belle were the same person. Well, shut my mouth and kick the dog!

I'm not criticizing the moderation here. I think they do fine and just want to keep a family element to the forum. But Wickerbill let me draw that thread out til I had a definitive answer - even though the subject was sorta borderline. Some people here all but write in code some of the time. That's fine, but it does suggest a sort of clubiness that ain't all that kewl with some others. Not a criticism... just an observation.
