Sources: Meyer offered Florida coaching job (http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/120304/col_meyer.shtml)

Utah's Urban Meyer has been offered the Florida coaching job and is expected to accept it later today, two separate sources told the Times-Union today.

Meyer's salary package is expected to be in excess of $2 million annually, one source said.

URBAN MEYER
UTAH COACH

Age: 40.

Distance from Gainesville: Salt Lake City is 2,212 miles away.

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley denied that the school had reached an agreement with Meyer.

"The search is in progress,'' Foley said. "The search is progressing.''

A source close to the Utah coaching situation, however, told the Times-Union that Meyer met with Foley in Salt Lake City on Thursday, and Foley offered Meyer the job then. Meyer also met with Notre Dame officials on Thursday.

A source close to the UF coaching search said he expects Meyer to take the job, but Meyer wants to tell the Utah administration and players about his plans first.

The source also said Florida aggressively pursued Meyer on Thursday because of the Notre Dame situation. The Irish fired Ty Willingham on Wednesday, and immediately targeted Meyer as his replacement.

"It [Willingham's firing] accelerated the process,'' said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "It was a wonderful opportunity to get a young coach who wants to come to Florida. Let's hope he's our coach for a long time.''

Florida made Meyer a priority over Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, who on Thursday issued his third statement that he wanted to remain with the Sooners since UF fired Ron Zook on Oct. 25, because officials were afraid they might lose out on Meyer if they invested too much time pursuing Stoops.

"We had one bullet to fire, and we were afraid if we fired it with Stoops, we might lose him [Meyer],'' the source said.

Utah (11-0) is ranked No. 6 in the latest Associated Press poll, and the Utes also are No. 6 in the BCS standings, which means they are likely headed for the Fiesta Bowl. Meyer's two-year record in Utah is 21-2, and he went 17-6 in two seasons at Bowling Green from 2001-2002. "

hehe, "Ty's firing accelerated the process", UF knew what ND was up to

God I hope this doesn't mean they go after Tedford  he's the best guy to make 10 win seasons out of the ppl they can recruit

South Bend, IN (AP)

A flood warning has been issued for the greater South Bend area for the next 72 hours. Meterologists have not been able to explain the sudden rise in water levels, but local sportscasters point to a large increase in crying from Notre Dame football followers.

In a related note, gold polish has all but disappeared from local merchants shelves. It seems that the University has become aware of sudden tarnishing on the roof of the administration building.

1 mile from campus, an unidentified African-American male was seen alternating between laughing his a** off and giving "the bird" to two people only identified as "Kevin" and "Monk".

1 year at bowling green, 2 years at utah...

his gimmick offense isn't going to do **** in a real league

sorry jervis, but gimmick offenses have always failed the ultimate test

if meyer's going to have success in the SEC East, he's going to have to heavily mix pro-form sets with that shotgun/slot back hybrid **** he has going on

and he better hire one damn good defensive coordinator, cuz even spurrier couldn't win a championship without one of the best there is, bob stoops

if utah plays anyone besides a big east team their gimmick formations and lack of size and speed will be exposed, a team with a REAL front 7, not mountain west midgets, and REAL secondary speed will kill utah, and no, A&M has absolutely NO speed in the secondary, and a mediocre sized front 7 at that... if A&M didn't have team suspensions in the first game, Utah gets took due to Courtney Lewis and a full team

on the other hand, meyer has some bad ASS recruiting classes to play with, a great o-line, some great WR's that zook brought in alongside chris leak's campaigning, he's got the tools to make it work, but whether that gimmick can outsmart defenses other than the Sisters of the Poor and Aggy remains to be seen

the good news for me:

florida is the only (reportedly) job that louisville coach bobby petrino would have taken. with that position filled, there is pretty much no way that bobby is leaving THE university of kentucky.
