I used to root for the Royal Crown Cola 917Kt to beat Penske in Can-Am races. :)

Unfortunately, it never did. :(

Here's George Follmer chasing the Sunoco car...

ps: damn Just remembering that dad and i used to deadhead [to Edmonton, where that shot comes from, and other places] with one of his USAF buddies on a MATSC "training" flights to go to Edmonton for several years. The Can-Am was 'king cool anyplace it ran. It sucked in 1974 when I was at M-O knowing that the bastardized two heat race I was watching was going to be the last time I saw those cars race.

pps: if memory serves, that car was owned by a guy named Bobby Rinzler.

Reminds me of an old joke:

A guy walks up to the counter in a store in Indiana and asks for an RC and Moonpie. The counter man says, "You must be from Mississippi." And the customer says, "Yes, how did you know?" And the counter man says, "This is a hardware store."

:gomer: <--- pchall, benefitting from a weird childhood. If that joke makes sense to you, you really ought to talk to my therapist. ;)

RC Cola was also the primary sponsor of a March/Buick IMSA GTP in the mid 80s.

You mean a Canadian liquor is going to be the sponsor in the Good 'ol boy series and not a good southern staple such as RC Cola??

What's your therapist's number?

I'm having to commute to Mississippi every week (I must have been someone evil in a previous life). So yeah, the joke makes a helluva lot of sense to me now. It's like the land that time forgot. Nice & polite people, but... mega :gomer:

As well as George Follmer's efforts in NASCAR with Bud Moore, at the same time as the Can-Am shot above.
