View Full Version : Hendrick Motorsports Plane Crashed
I don't know who was on it or have any word on survivors. It was on its way to Martinsville.

Someone on TF said NBC reported no survivors, but they aren't releasing names until relatives are notified.
Apparently Rick Hendrick is NOT one of the people on board, he was at the track today, but beyond that I don't know.

By DANIELLE SCHULMAN / WCNC.com
A plane has crashed in Patrick County, Virginia, state police there confirm. A 6NEWS source says the plane belongs to Henrick Motorsports.
Several high-placed sources inside NASCAR confirm these passengers on the plane: Tony Stewart’s helicopter pilot (who was not piloting the plane), two people who were piloting the plane, John Hendrick (Rick Hendrick’s brother), Ricky Hendrick, Randy Dorton and his two daughters.
The Subway 500 is just about to wrap up in Martinsville, Virginia. Patrick County lies to the west of Martinsville in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Henrick Motorsports is located out of Concord, N.C.
Here's an update.
The son of NASCAR owner Rick Hendrick was among 10 people killed Sunday when a small plane headed from Concord to Martinsville crashed in Patrick County in Virginia.
Ricky Hendrick, a former NASCAR driver, died in the incident. John Hendrick, Rick's brother, and Kimberly and Jennifer Hendrick, John's twin daughters, also died in the crash.
The plane was en route to Martinsville Speedway for Sunday's Subway 500. Jimmie Johnson was driving the Hendrick car in the race and was the winner.
Officials reportedly lost contact with the plane at about 12:30.
The names of the other people who died in the crash are: Dck Tracey, pilot, Liz Morrison, pilot, Joe Jackson, Jeff Turner, the VP and General Manager of Hendrick Motorsports, Randy Dorton and Scott Latham.

that is terrible news
Jeez. And earlier this year Rick's father passed away.
Wow. That's terrible. Something about NASCAR and flying just doesn't mix. :(

It's really incredibly unbelievable......and Randy Dorton too!!! Who's been described as the "genius" engine builder.....How many of his engines have won races and championships for Hendrick and other teams since whenever he started?

The first NASCAR-winning engine built by Randy Dorton was a 355 Dodge, in a Charger with the #43 on the side, if that tells you anything.

I was just watching the Martinsville race and 41 minutes after it starts there is Randy Dorton's commercial, just an hour after his death...no doubt for the last time....I didn't even know those were still running, I'm going to copy it for the memories.
