I have read elsewhere that the Fontana final rating was a big .1. That's on network TV, friends.

I find that one hard to believe. The Incredible Dog Challenge on got a .2 on PAX a couple of weeks ago.

JoeBob - Inky posted it. If Inky were wrong, it would be a first.

I'd bet a six pack it was on ESPN... saw the promo in a bar and then caught the last yellow live...

It was on ESPN. I remember that because I didn't have to go out of my way to avoid watching it since I was at work and we don't have cable there. :D

but, but, but..........

wait a minute, here it is, last Sunday at 2pm CST on the Food Channel the "$50,000 Pastry Challenge" what is the braintrust at 16th and Georgetown thinking going up against a ratings killer like that.

At least they didn't have more people in attendence than they had watching at home...mainly because there was no one in attendence...

A .1 shouldn't be anything for TG to worry about. So he starts buying time on the toob for his club league. So what, he's bought and/or paid for everything else. :saywhat:

given the quality of the product, I bet the number was rounded up.

I wonder what the people at Toyota and Honda think about this situation? Is there any kind of performance clause in their contracts with the IRL specifying some sort of return on their investment or is this just TG's way of getting back at the Japanese for the attack on Pearl Harbor?

I'd say the public has spoken regarding the IRL, Penske, Ganassi, Michael Andretti, Rahal, Toyota, Honda and the combined talents of Jack Arute and Paul "Whoa!!" Page. Nice try guys but it didn't work, your product sucks.

What ever happened to the jack ass from the FTG series who started out the season on tv with TK? Not that I really care but after seeing the whole tv bunch kisted aboveit reminded me that we had one of theirs trying to spy early on.

IIRC, "Baghdad" Bob Jenkins was last heard @ IMS during some so-called spectacle there back in May. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Jenkins was replaced on the Spike broadcasts. Last I heard, Bob was last seen with his lips firmly attached to FTG's @ss.

EDIT: Here's (http://offcamber.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4624) the thread I recalled. Someone mentioned Jenkins was on the PA @ IMS. Of course his disappearance could be releated to the fact that he sucked.

I believe you're thinking of Bob Jenkins. I don't know the details but apparently he did not mesh well with the CCWS product.

I double checked, and the race was on ESPN, not network TV. A .1 on ESPN is a very real possibility.

I stand corrected. Still, a .1 on a Sunday afternoon for a live race is awful.

I think the drop from 0.5 to 0.1 pretty much indicates the hardcore fans walking away from the sport. Neither side of the war has many people left.

Didn't we used to make fun of (and get made fun of for getting) a .7 rating on cable?

Maybe he's gone because of gaffes like this: (and I'm not making this up) Jenkins, when two cars were wheel to wheel at the apex of a corner during a 2004 Champ Car broadcast: "Uhh..." at that point TK jumped in and indentified the two drivers being shown. :(

I didn't know that there were still some groups of fans left for FTG to alienate and drive away.

But hey, I've been wrong before.

Those partial snippits during Wild World of Sports back in the 70s is starting look pretty good as far as a TV deal is concerned. What, the ratings would be lower?

Do they measure below .1?

Well, they still have one race to go yet in the season.

Too bad Turn13 doesn't post here to tell us about how it's just another sign of growth.

And Ford made noise about the problems with CART's ratings when they were in the 1.2-1.5 range. Now you could add CCWS, IRL and ALMS together and you'd probably not get a 1.5.

I found the IRL race on ESPN while I was flipping around during the NASCAR race (that's right, NASCAR! boogity, boogity, boogity!). Call NASCAR what you want (and believe me, I've called it quite a few things), but the sight of the cabs roaring around the track in a giant pack was something to behold. I watched maybe 30 seconds of the IRL race. Compared to the NASCABers, it was like watching Phyllis Diller do a porn movie. For some reason, the IRL sleds looked really, really slow. I didn't hang around long enough to check their speeds... even my dad wanted to see the finish of the NASCAR race.

OK, hold that image. Now, Red Hot Chilli Peppers is playing Give It Away in the background. Just keeps getting better, eh?

Maybe 30 seconds isn't enough time to judge the new & improved IRL (aka CART Lite: same CART drivers, but less filling), but that looked like some really pitiful *****e to me. :shakehead

When the short trackers, really didn't get the breaks the oval-centrists got nervous.

When Penkse came in and the costs went up, the Indy faithfull got nervous, and the oval-centrists woke up and left.

When all the big teams came in, and the Laziers and the Fishers started having trouble getting rides, the Indy faithfull got critical.

Now that the 'fan favorites' are gone, most of the Indy faithful left. That is why no one watched and no one went!

The only people left are pretty much a personality cult built around Tony George :gomer: The Kool Aid is really doing a job on them, I hear they stuff they brew up in Bargersville is pretty potent. . :gomer:
