Milwaukee Mile Welcomes ARCA Stock Cars in '05

WEST ALLIS, WI (October 4, 2004) – The Milwaukee Mile has announced the addition of the Automobile Racing Club of America’s ARCA RE/MAX Series to the speedway’s 2005 schedule. The tradition-laden stock car series will make it’s return to America’s Legendary Oval on Saturday, June 4, 2005.

“We know the talented drivers and teams in the ARCA RE/MAX Series will put on a great show, and it is a great addition to The Milwaukee Mile’s 2005 season schedule,” exclaimed Mark Perrone, Vice President / General Manager of the one-mile oval. “We’ve had a number of our loyal fans inquire about the possibility of holding an ARCA race here, and it’s been a pleasure getting to know ARCA President Ron Drager in the process of making this possible.”

The Milwaukee Mile hosted seven co-sanctioned ARCA stock car events from 1958 to 1983, in conjunction with the United States Auto Club. The race cars resemble NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series cars in size and shape. A number of NASCAR’s top teams feel the competition against the veteran ARCA teams is a bonafide proving ground. NASCAR team owners Chip Ganassi, Rick Hendrick and Richard Childress have fielded teams in select events for a number of years.

The ARCA RE/MAX series grew from Midwestern roots, and while the series competes at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway, the diverse offerings of race tracks in any given season include one-mile dirt tracks in Springfield IL and DuQuoin, IL, and the half-mile paved Toledo Speedway, located near the series’ headquarters on the Ohio-Michigan border.

"We're fortunate to have the opportunity to expand into the Milwaukee market at such a class facility as The Milwaukee Mile," said ARCA President Ron Drager. "We're proud of the ARCA RE/MAX Series' rich 53-year history in motorsports, and being able to return to the legendary ‘Mile sets up what we hope will become a long-standing traditional annual event."

The Saturday, June 4, 2005 visit will be first ARCA-sanctioned event held at The ‘Mile since 1983.
