I just downloaded and started using Ad Aware yesterday http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
after a pesky Spyware problem just would not go away and was severely gumming up my computer . It's the browser hijacker VXD that opens new internet explorer windows as pop up ads even when you are not surfing the net (Pop up stopper didn't stop these either) . Spybot did nothing, and the 2004 Norton tells you it's there but can't delete it, as it does some other spyware. Had to run the Ad Aware a couple of times to get rid of it and it did. Not only that, but the first time it ran it deleted almost 1,000 adware threats that the other software didn't even detect.
