Shadybowl Speedway is a 1/3-mile paved oval a little more than an hour south of here. They used to be taken seriously as a legitimate racing facility. But that all ended last year with school bus races. (http://www.shadybowl.com/pressreleases/2003/2003-8-23.html)

Then, just when you thought they couldn't top that, two weeks ago they had trailer races. (http://www.shadybowl.com/pressreleases/2004/2004-7-24.html) That's right folks, trailer races. (http://www.shadybowl.com/pressreleases/2004/2004-7-24.html)

Why do I get the feeling that most of the people in attendance at these races rode this type of bus to school :gomer:

Piersall started out with a full size van towing a huge camper and ended up with a mini van. In a move that couldn’t have been scripted any better by a Hollywood director, one of his many “altercations” saw the toilet fly out of his camper and come to rest at the start finish line upright. The “throne” proved to be way too tempting to Piersall who then proceeded to destroy it several lap later. Rick Thompson also had a wild night, as somehow his van ended up on the trailer of the car in front of him, leaving him at the mercy of that driver, as he was towed around the track on what was sure to be an eventful ride.

Note the crowd. Is it any different in size of makeup than the grassroots american racing fans who were just aching to see their oval track heros get a shot at Indy? So this is why they're not showing up for the IRL races? They'd rather watch bus racing?

Well, the buses are almost as fast, but you don't have to worry about one of them flying into the stands. I'll bet the tenderloins are cheaper too.
