:( Francis Crick, DNA co-discoverer, dies (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/science/07/29/people.crick.reut/index.html)

I had the opportunity to here him and John Watson speak while I was in college. Along with Einstein, IMHO Crick and Watson will be remembered as the most import scientists in the 20th Centruy.

wow. now here's a discussion I never expected to read on a racing forum. and yet, we seem to have a consortium of histo-microbiology buffs in our number. cool.

thanks for the impetus to look up Rosalind Franklin. seems unjust.

(and as far as important 20th century scientist collegiate brushes-with-scientific-greatness goes, Leon Lederman spoke at my graduation. :gomer: )

stephen weinberg spoke at our commencement a couple of years ago and derided the students for misplacing priorities and caring more about football than academics.... and he's very correct about that....

needless to say they boo'ed him off stage, hehe
