A 4.5 is pretty scary with all those old brick buildings in the Midwest. Good thing it was early in the AM, or there'd be some cleanup required on the Sears Tower viewing floor!

My dad said that he thought that a truck hit the house. Lives close to Ottawa.

Back in the late '80's, there was a minor quake that "shook" Indianapolis. It was around 6-7PM. Big story on the late news that night. When it happened, my lovely ex and I (happily divorced since 1989) were playing a round of nine after work, and we were on the green! We walked over to the next tee, where a group of women were waiting to tee off and they all said "did you feel that?" "Feel what?" I was on a friggin green, and didn't even feel the earthquake.

Reports of the shaking came from as far west as the Quad Cities.

Now that is just wierd. I grew up there. Never thought I'd hear of the day an earthqauke is/was felt there.

I live 2 hours east of Ottawa and I felt/heard it. had absolutely no idea what happened. My son said it was an earthquake right after it happened and I told him I didn't think that was possible. But it was.

Tornados, earthquakes and the irl - welcome to the midwest.

only earthquakes in houston are the ones caused by wankers with subwoofers as big as the cavity in their heads

Just wait until the New Madrid fault generates a tremblor. You will definately feel that one. Many siesmologists believe that the continents stongest earthquakes are generated on that fault system, in the 8 to 9 range. This quake was in the sandwich fault system - this same fault system generated a 3.5 (or so) quake in 1973 - I remember feeling that one.
