Reuters
BERLIN -- Microsoft Corp. chairman Bill Gates wants to become Toyota's chief Formula One sponsor with an investment of $40 million a year in the Cologne-based team, the Bild am Sonntag reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said Toyota was also trying to land Sony as a major sponsor for the team that has an annual budget of $400 million.

It also said Toyota would announce at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone next month that Williams driver Ralf Schumacher will switch to Toyota next season with a five-year $100 million deal.

Would $40 milion make you the 'chief sponsor' of a team that has a $400 million budget? Honest question.

Okay, now I know why the Toyota team blows. Anyone dense enough to pay Ralph $20 mill a year is too dumb to be considered a contender... :shakehead

Maybe they'll use Windows software for the engine management.

Blue screen of death on the cockpit display?

Dunno why you guys are so hard on Microsoft. They have the largest R&D team on the planet.

That would be everyone that buys their junk. ;)

Ralfie & Bill. Sounds like a feel good movie, don't it?

Why the hell can't Gates sponsor Champ Car? $40 Million? That would prop the whole series!

Incomplete argument. More like the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The EU hasn't any more love for Bernie than Bill.

$40 Million will get you a little sticker near the air intake ala Budweiser for Williams :p

If Marlboro is into Ferrari for about 60M, 40M for Toyota seems about right, actually.

From what I remember, Budweiser's deal with Williams was about 10M/yr.

What a waste of $10 mil. You can't even see their logo.
