In addition to its dramatic new livery, the Jaguar team has placed a $250,000 flawless diamond on the nose of each of the four R5s it is using at Monaco, as part of a one-off sponsorship agreement with Steinmetz, an Israeli diamond dealer. All of which makes the thought of having to abandon stalled, crashed or flaming cars out on the racetrack particularly worrisome….

Only in F1 :shakehead

Gives a whole new perspective to track cleanup after a shunt, don't it?

good thing they're fire proof and not mounted on the right rear.

Takes the old adage of "diamond in the rough" to a whole new level

Well, Diamond's make good cutting tools, perhaps they can "slice" their way through the field?

I sure hope someone steals them. One or two falling off and bouncing into the ocean would be cool too.

Imagine the wrestling match that could erupt among the marshalls if a Jag nose gets destroyed.

that livery looks dumb...it looks like they took the nose off another car in a lurch

I thought the line was, "Diamonds: Because she'll pretty much have to." :D

The best line in that whole article was at the end:

David Coulthard was asked in Monaco if he does actually want to race next year.

“Actually,” he replied, “I'd quite like to be able to race this year….”

If you paint it like a Ferrari , maybe it'll go faster....

I was trying to remember where I had seen those colors before -- then I remembered the green and red Alfa Romeos of the mid-1980's! I couldn't find a picture to show, but here's an article (http://www.riccardopatrese.com/RP_motorsport3.htm) (with a small picture) in which Riccardo Patrese calls the Alfa Romeo 185T "the worst car I ever drove." Hope that's not a portent for Jaguar. (By the way, Riccardo's team-mate was none other than Eddie Cheever...)

Well, with the Ocean's Twelve boys in town, I wouldn't be surprised if at grid time, the nose diamonds (sounds like something from Ren & Stimpy) go missing.

As expected, at least one marshall must have gone home happy... ;)
